The labor movement mainly took from the 1870's to 1920's.
Leaders and Movements
In the 20th century, one of the largest national organization of labor unions was called the American Federation of Labor and they were lead by Samuel Gompers. The Knights of Labor were also another big national labor organization and they were lead by Terence V. Powderly.
Union's Goals/ Social Effects
These unions fought for better worker wages, reasonable working hours, and safer working conditions. They also got rid of child labor and led efforts for workers to have health benefits and to provide aid for workers who were injured or retired. There efforts led to achieving their goal and they helped the people by doing so.

When did it start?
Labor unions date back to the eighteenth century during the industrial revolution in Europe. During this time there was a huge surge of new workers into the workplace that needed representation.
