MCCHS FRIDAY FOCUS
62nd Edition: February 9, 2018
Pilgrims on the Way of Truth
Once inside our beloved school, our most ardent prayer is that our students feel safe in every possible way. Recently, an act of vandalism involving an unspeakable racial slur caused our students to feel unsafe at our school. Although the vandalism was quickly and completely removed and the investigation was completed with significant consequences, the act itself demanded deeper reflection and discussion within our community. This past Tuesday, at an all school assembly, Mr. Baldwin condemned any acts of racism and hatred, and also challenged the entire Marian Central family to reflect on what it means to be a family of God.
As a school community - we should always aim to welcome and celebrate each other's differences because anything less is "ultimately a denial of human dignity, " as Cardinal Wuerl, Archbishop of Washington, explains in his powerful letter entitled "The Challenge of Racism." Cardinal Wuerl continues:
"To address racism, we need to recognize two things: that it exists in a variety of forms, some more subtle and others more obvious; and that there is something we can do about it even if we realize that what we say and the steps we take will not result in an immediate solution to a problem that spans generations. We must, however, confront this issue with the conviction that in some personal ways we can help to resolve it."
We will continue to discuss and seek understanding in our beloved school. We ask that you continue this conversation within your own family, too, and encourage questions, no matter how uncomfortable they may be. We have made this our goal this year through our Conversations that Matter - to tackle head on the issues that threaten our children - whether it's substance abuse, anxiety, social media, or racism and prejudice.
We vow to provide an environment in which spiritual, academic, emotional, and physical growth may occur safely. We vow to hold accountable actions of malice. As part of our school's mission, we have dedicated ourselves to seek the Truth. And truth is often painful to hear, and it is even more difficult to live. Even so...God has given us the tools to take this pilgrimage. He gave us each other. He gave us this school community. He gave us our Church and all the saints to guide us. Most of all, he gave us his only Son. Let us do this for Him.

Calling All Seniors: It's Time to Submit Your BABY PHOTO!
Dear Marian Senior Family,
It is the time of the year where the yearbook, The Memorare, is collecting baby photos of the Senior class. Photos should be appropriate and tend to be between ages 6 months-2 years. We ask that these photos be clear and scannable.
Senior students will be turning in their baby photos to their English teacher. We will return these photos in the same condition, we just ask that the following information is provided on the back of the photo:
- Student’s printed FULL name
- English Teacher’s Name & Class Period
*You May also email a clear JPEG File of the scanned baby photo to kgallagher@marian.com. Please include your student’s full name with the email.
If your student(s) chooses not to submit a photo, he or she will have no smaller photo next to their official portrait. The space will simply be left blank. To guarantee every Senior has a photo, we ask that students bring their photos in NO LATER than Thursday, March 8th, 2018
We will return the photos once they have been successfully scanned into our system.
Should you have any questions, please contact Miss Gallagher (kgallagher@marian.com). We look forward in creating a lifetime of memories for the Class of 2018!
Sincerely, The 2017-2018 Memorare Editors, Advisers, and Staff

Doing any DRESS SHOPPING?
PROM -FORMAL (April 27th - Juniors and Seniors only) Gowns and Tuxedos are the typical attire for this event. Again, with dresses, since there are so many selections out there - it is important that our school's conservative attire is respected.
Society (and the media) may be tempting our young men and women to dress and behave far beyond their age - but we have to do our best to protect the age they actually are. Thank you for always partnering with us in this effort to prepare them for adulthood, while still honoring and protecting their age.
We hope you find this Semi/Formal Dress Guideline helpful!
