What are the goals of Spotlight?
- Celebrate the achievements and success of students, teachers, and staff in our schools.
- Highlight events and activities in which our students and teachers are engaging.
- Focus on the people participating in activities and events.
Be sure to include people in your photo submissions for Spotlight. It's ok to show students engaged in school work, but please make sure that we can see faces, not just backs of heads or hands. If you are including a photo of school work, please also include photos of the students doing the activity.
*Artwork is a bit different. Sometimes the art speaks for itself. But, when possible, take a photo of the student with their artwork or holding it.
NOTE:
Unless you have a signed 'Opt Out' form for a student, it is ok to show faces in photos. Our viewers(parents, relatives, and other stakeholders) want to see students engaged in learning and having fun.
Videos
- YouTube
- Vimeo
- Viddler
Videos from news sources work well also because they will have a URL that I can embed.
Photos
- Photos embedded into Word or Google Docs are time consuming to move into Spotlight. Please consider including jpgs separately from your writeup. Label with a name or number(1-10) to match your writeup.
- Photo collages are an excellent way to showcase several photos from an event at one time, but too many photos make it difficult to see people or activities clearly. Please include no more than SIX photos in your collage.
- To improve visual consistency throughout the newsletter, please use a grid pattern collage, not a scattered photo collage. There are many free and easy to use collage makers for smart phones and computers. Consider using one of them to create your collages.
- Collage backgrounds can be seasonal, colors, or white.
