Mrs. Reiber's Apple Newsletter
October 3, 2016
Important Reminders
- Each night, the white folder will come home with your child, along with their agenda. The agenda will have assignments and spelling words written in it. The folder will have the actual homework papers and any other important papers to take home or to return to school. Thank you in advance for your help and cooperation.
- Homework this week: Spelling practice test is due on Friday (I would suggest testing closer to Thursday night). Math worksheet is due on Friday. Reading homework consists of a worksheet about Enemy Pie, a book we read in class, and is due on Friday.
- October Scholastic book order forms will be coming home on Monday. I send a new book preview flyer home with each student on Mondays in case they'd like to browse for books. Books can be ordered online, the website and class code will be on the flyer. **Thank you for all of the September orders! You helped our class earn over 12 FREE BOOKS. We have also earned free book coupons for October -- if you would like to use one for your child, please message me or contact me and I'll be happy to send the coupon home in the white folder.**
- Reminder: Our field trip to Ramseyer Farms is coming up on Tuesday, October 11th. If you were chosen as a chaperone, I have already contacted you. Please send in your $8 as soon as possible (I have received a few parents' money already). Our class is getting very excited for our first field trip!
- Looking ahead: There is no school on Friday, October 14th.
Thanks,
Mrs. Reiber

What we are learning in Room 12 this week...
This is the area of the weekly newsletter where parents/guardians can be informed of what is planned for our week. If your child is ever going to be absent, please let me know in advance if possible, so I can send make-up work with them.
- Math - We will continue our unit about the properties of multiplication, division, and arrays. Please practice multiplication facts (2s, 3s, 4s, and 5s) at home when you can. We are starting to learn more about fact families with multiplication and division.
- Reading - We are going to focus on plot elements and problem/solution with books such as Enemy Pie. We have also been learning about how to "grow our brains" with our Class Dojo growth mindset videos.
- Writing/Spelling - This week we will focus on short vowel sounds for a, e, i, o, and u. Please check your child's agenda for their spelling words; there is a test on Friday. For writing class, we will learn about the types of sentences and we will practice constructing our own complete sentences to show our excellent third grade writing skills.
- We have started our science unit about natural resources and energy. We are finishing our resources foldable project and are starting to read and learn about the types of energy.
