January Updates in the LRC!
Hi, Field Community!
I hope that everyone has been staying warm in these frigid/snowy temperatures! It was great to have so many families stop by and say hello at open house and create bookmarks. I know my assistants enjoyed having so many visitors. We have been doing a lot of reading, organizing, creating, and researching both at home and at school! In January we had been focusing on researching and learning about influential people in history. We have been utilizing books in our collection, our new World Book encyclopedias, and our online subscriptions to both Pebble Go and World Book online to help us find read for information.
We have had to be super flexible to accommodate some testing and these cold, snowy weather days. Thank you to those students who have been responsible with remembering to bring their library books back. Starting this week, each Friday, the library will be starting to send home a "Friday Find It" Form. If your child has a book that is 8 days or more overdue, a slip will come home informing you of the missing book. We have quite a few books in our collection that fall in this category, and we want to make sure that we are keeping all books in circulation so all students have the opportunity to check them out. If you don't have the book at home, please contact Mrs. Schaab and we figure out the best way to replace the lost book. Thank you for your support with our new endeavor!
Lastly, our Book Fair will be here before you know it! If you would like to partner with me to help run it and arrange volunteers, please shoot me an email. I'm looking for one parent contact to help me with organizing it this year and complete some online trainings. If you want to help, but not be in charge, let me know too. I'll start a list of potential volunteers. :) The dates for the book fair at Field are April 22nd-April 26th. Thanks in advance for your consideration. All purchases will directly benefit our library and our readers.
Thanks & Happy Reading!!!

Mark your calendar! The 10th annual World Read Aloud Day celebration will take place on Friday, February 1, 2019. This annual advocacy day, presented by global literacy nonprofit LitWorld and sponsored by Scholastic, unites people around the world by highlighting the importance of reading aloud and sharing stories.
Why is reading aloud so important? Reading aloud to children regularly from birth not only fosters language development, literary and informational text knowledge, and social emotional learning, but is also crucial for children’s happiness and development as joyful readers. In fact, research from Scholastic Kids & Family Reading Report™ found that the majority of children ages 6–17 from the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, India, and Canada love read aloud time at home because “it’s a special time with my parent.” But, many parents stop reading aloud to their children as they get older.
To encourage the importance of reading aloud and storytelling at any age, register to join World Read Aloud Day 2019 and discover the free resources available online to help plan your own celebration: http://www.litworld.org/wrad.
On social media, join the conversation using #WorldReadAloudDay. You can also listen to Pam Allyn, Ernest Morrell, Nick Cannon, and Andrea Davis Pinkney discuss read-alouds on the Scholastic Reads podcast, here.
