Van Brunt Elementary

January 2016

HAPPY 2016!!!

Dear Van Brunt Families,

I hope everyone had a wonderful winter break! It was nice to finally get the snow we have been waiting for. However, I didn't mind the 50-degree weather!

It's hard to believe that we are half way through the school year. I would like to thank our families, students, and staff for a wonderful 2015. By working together, and keeping the lines of communication open, we are accomplishing great things! I am seeing students excited to learn, staff members collaborating to provide the best possible education for our students, and a continual focus on finding ways to become better every day! It's exciting to think of all we will accomplish in the coming year!

Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or comments.

Best Regards,

Lisa Sawyer

Upcoming Assessments:

During the month of January, teachers will be taking some time to assess the current math and reading level of each student. These assessment results will be used to help guide us as we plan educational opportunities for second semester. Please encourage your child to do his/her best on theses assessments. We are so proud of the great work our students are doing and can't wait to see the progress!

Congratulations to our December POPS winners!

Congratulations to our December POPS winners for showing PATIENCE this month! Demonstrating patience with our friends, family, and with situations is not always easy, but these students did a great job!

We love how our students show patience when they are learning new things. We know that learning takes time and effort and we have to be patient with ourselves and understand that we might not have it yet, but it will come! Using a growth mindset helps us demonstrate patience as we learn!

Fourth Grade Polar Express!

Mr. McKean's and Mr. O'Connell's 4th grade classes entertained us with their performance of The Polar Express! The students really worked as a team to bring this performance to life! A special thank you to Ms. Servais and a group of 6th grade students for choreographing and supervising the practice of the hot chocolate dancing waiter routine.
