Attendance Notifications

Attendance is one of the most important factors for academic success. Studies have shown that students who regularly attend school are less likely to struggle academically as they move through middle and high school. At the same time, there are several uncontrollable factors that can make coming to school difficult, from illness, to family events, to mental health. We understand that these factors can impact a student’s attendance.

The Sherwood School District has been working on helping to inform families of their student’s attendance rates this year via electronic communications. Starting in May of 2023, all families will receive a new version of this communication, which is a preview of what we will be using during the 2023-2024 school year. This electronic communication will be sent to every family at the trimester progress report, and final grades.

When your family receives these electronic attendance letters, there is no action required on your family’s part.

We are here to partner with you! If you feel there is any way we can support your student in their attendance, please reach out to an administrator.

SRO Reminder

Please remember to reduce your speed and stay alert when driving on campus. Recently we have noticed vehicles driving faster than appropriate when students are on campus. Please help us keep all of our students safe by reducing your speed and staying alert for students and staff on campus.

SMS Needs Disinfecting Wipes & Tissues

Help SMS staff and students finish off the year feeling clean and healthy! If you are able to donate, please bring disinfecting wipes and facial tissues to the front office. Thank you!

State Testing

Oregon's Statewide Assessments in science, mathematics, and English language arts have begun for students in grades 3-8. Scheduled testing will take place during the school day. For additional information on the State Assessments from the Oregon Department of Education, please review the following link.

While no single test can give a complete picture of your child’s progress, statewide tests provide information to students and families, as well as to educators and administrators about what educational approaches are working and where additional resources are needed. Your child’s participation is important to ensure schools and districts receive the targeted resources they need to help all students succeed. Districts are rated on their participation levels as well as student performance on this exam.

Oregon law (ORS 329.479) permits parents and adult students to annually opt-out of Oregon’s statewide summative tests in English Language Arts and Math by submitting a form to the school the student attends. 8th grade Science requires a separate form.

Yearbook Update:

We could really use help from parents to submit more photos of 6th graders & 8th graders, as well as Spring Sports/activity photos. Small group photos and selfies are good options.

Also there are many yearbook orders where the flight time teacher is not indicated so if those could be added by parents in their account that will ensure the book gets to their student.

The leadership class is organizing a signing party so it’s important that yearbooks are ordered asap so that they will arrive in time for that.

Order your 2022-2023 SMS Yearbook now. You can begin personalizing your yearbook right away with back to school photos, fall sports/activities, summer vacation memories etc. Click here for more information.
