Superintendent's Memo
Halloween is one week away. It has been exciting to visit schools and see all the spooky decorations. I hope the treats are plentiful this Halloween for you all. (FYI - I love rockets).
I want to thank you for continuing your commitment to truth and reconciliation which continues after the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. As you continue to embed knowledge and learning into your classrooms, this Indigenous Education Resource Guide may help support you. Strengthening the Heartbeat of Reconciliation seems to be a fitting title for our work.
Our schools are fortunate to have dedicated School Councils. These strong partnerships support student learning and wellbeing within our schools. Here is a School Council Resource Guide; plus Alberta School Councils Association (ASCA) member School Councils have access online to additional resources. ASCA does a great job in supporting school councils’ roles within our schools.
Over the month of October and into November, Michelle, James and I have the opportunity to meet with principals and assistant principals in what we call Instructional Leadership visits. We are absolutely amazed to learn more about the student focused events, activities and learning that is occurring in our schools. We discuss school goals, including wellness, data, student events and also professional learning. Our visits align with the Leadership Quality Standard and I am so proud of your work! The common message we hear is that each school’s team approach contributes to supporting all students in our schools.
The most recent media releases that were sent out are BTPS is Thankful and BTPS Years of Service and Retirement Celebration. I am also pleased to share our next Remembrance Day radio ads from Hughenden students, Gage and Holly.
It is hard to believe that October has only a week left. I am crossing my fingers the snow holds off a bit longer around here! Enjoy the rest of the month and Happy Halloween everyone!
Take care,
Rhae-Ann
