OUR VISION

The vision of The Manning School of Academics and Arts is to challenge all students to work to their highest potential and encourage student responsibility as they develop intellectually, socially, physically, emotionally and creatively.

Manning Community,

We are so grateful for you! I've heard from quite a few parents that this week has been successful in many ways. From greeting your students during orientation, to getting classes started this week, I am so proud of our staff. They've worked tirelessly to ensure that your students have an incredible educational experience here at Manning.

Weekly Community Challenge: As we will continually work to improve the experience for our community, there will be a weekly challenge that I will put in front of our students and parents in my principal's weekly message. This week, I'm challenging each of you to pick two staff members (this includes our entire staff, not just teachers) and send them an email of gratitude. I would love for our staff to have some wonderful kudos from our parents and students!

Weekly Quote: "There are far better things ahead than any we leave behind.” -C.S. Lewis

Have a wonderful weekend and reach out if you need anything!

With Gratitude,

Christian Ramaker

Helpful hints to remember Synchronous vs. Asynchronous

  • Synchronous = Same time, face to face (either in person or online via zoom/google meet)

  • Asynchronous = student Alone working while checking in to google classroom during their period

  • Fridays are asynchronous learning & office hours. We need students to check in during the correct period time. Students can have something due on Friday, and turning in that assignment would count as the student attending class for the day. Students could also be required to do a warm-up activity to count attendance for Friday. Students may make appointments to meet with small groups or one-on-one for synchronous learning, but this is an individual decision by the teacher. Students may reach their teacher by email during office hours.

  • PLEASE NOTE - We are following a Quarter system this year, so that means that the classes are 8 weeks of instruction. You may notice that your student only has science and social studies one each quarter. That means they will receive 16 weeks of content in 8 weeks. This allowed us to give everyone another elective.

Attendance Notes

  • We know this week was tough, getting to the right place, student's had trouble logging in, etc. Please know we have extended grace for attendance this week, in that if they missed a single period or the office heard from you for an absence, we have cleared all other attendance marks.
  • Please remember to call the attendance line or email Melaine.Heesacker@jeffco.k12.co.us if your student will miss any school for appointments and especially any illness.
  • Beginning next week, if your student hasn't shown up in class, you will be receiving a phone call from one of our office staff to ensure your student isn't having technical issues or is in need of help
  • Please see the Attendance Procedures on our Manning website
  • Attendance will be a day in arrears this year as teachers will have until 3:30 to update and save attendance. Please know you may receive calls if your student was marked for a class. This is your opportunity to make sure your student didn't miss a step and keep that line of communication open between your student and their teachers.

SEL Corner - A Place to Fill up your BUCKET!

We did it! A week of school is in the books!! After this week take some time to reflect: what went well? What felt good or comfortable? What was challenging? Are there challenges that are out of anyone’s control? Which are ones that we can address? What did you learn about yourself this week? Start with a quiet time for reflection, then perhaps open it up to a conversation with family or friends. Bring your attention to moments of hope, help, and strength. We can be tempted into pure venting, which has a place, encourage yourselves to find areas that support and strengthen you even in the areas that feel like straight icky-ness. For instance, after a moment that caused you stress, what helped? Was it the care of a friend? Creating art? Taking a nap?

We have an online referral form now. Our referral document is intended for use by the whole Manning community: teachers, staff, parents, and students. On Manning’s website under the counselors’ tab there is a link to this form. These are mental health concerns that interfere with a student’s learning. Concerns around excessive stress, anxiety, depression, bullying, and the like. Myself, the counselors, and AP have direct access to this document. If you are concerned about thoughts of suicide please reach out directly, outside of school hours please seek additional support from our community resources.
