PCMS WEEKLY UPDATE

Good Afternoon Pirate Families,
It’s officially the strangest last day of school ever! Instead of talent shows, grilling hot dogs, signing yearbooks, and celebrating a wonderful year together, we met via computer and phone screens this morning with each grade. We were thrilled to see nearly 400 students join us this morning to send them off.
As a final farewell to our kiddos for the summer, this Wednesday evening, we’re going to have a Pirate Salute Drive-By Parade here at PCMS. Our parade will be "open house" style - Come anytime between 5:30 and 6:30pm on Wednesday, May 27, drive through the PCMS campus with students in your vehicles, so our staff can send you off into summer and teachers can see their students one last time! (Feel free to decorate your car! Let’s make this a fun farewell to the 2019-20 school year!)
Finally, a very special thank you to all of our servicemen and women on this Memorial Day Weekend - enjoy the holiday weekend and be safe! GO PIRATES!!
Drop Off and Pick Up Procedures (Materials & Belongings)
We are ready to return personal belongings to all students from their hall locker, gym locker, and band locker. Additionally, we are asking for students to return any school-owned or teacher-owned property they might have (i.e., textbooks, teacher books, library books, calculators, etc.). We highly recommend that you bring your student with you to pick up their belongings.
Drop Off/Pick Up Details - UPDATED
- Curbside pickup will take place in FRONT of the school. (We will have cones set up to direct traffic flow- see diagram below.) There, we will greet you and ask you to provide your student's name. We then radio inside, and a staff member will bring your student's belongings out.
- If your student shares a locker, we will bring out all the belongings from the locker, and your student will need to pick out their belongings, leaving their partner's in the bag.
- Spring Portraits that were purchased have been placed in student bags.
- Students do NOT need to hand in their Chromebook unless they were issued a loaner Chromebook during the closure or if they will not be returning to PCR3 next school year. If your child keeps their Chromebook over the summer and they experience problems with it, please call 858.5791 and our Technology Department will be able to assist.
- If your student is a BAND student, you will proceed around the building, out the parking lot, and head right (east) on Pirate Drive. You will then need to stop along the curb in front of the band door, which will be open. A band teacher will waive your student in to get their instrument and lock. (We will only allow one person in the band room at a time.)
Lost & Found
- Weather permitting, Lost and Found items will be available for families to look through while practicing social distancing.

Spring Portraits, Yearbooks, T-shirts
We are excited to be able to report that we finally received our students’ spring portraits from Lifetouch! We have already placed these in the bags with students’ belongings, so you will be getting to see them soon!
Unfortunately, we do not have the same good news about yearbooks. We have not received these yet. If we get them in time, we will get these to you at belongings pick-up time, as well. If not, we will most likely hand those at Registration in August like the high school does with theirs.
Class of 2024 (8th Grade) Shirts
Current 8th graders who ordered a Class of t-shirt, we think that these should arrive and be on hand in time for belongings pick-up. If that doesn’t happen, we will communicate with you via text and/or email regarding alternate pick-up options.
Online Re-enrollment/Proof of Residency for Existing Students
Resident parents of existing K-11th grade students are asked to complete online re-enrollment forms and electronic proof of residency for the 2020-21 school year.

If you will be moving out of the district or your middle school student will not be attending PCMS next year for any other reason, please fill out the form below. (Please disregard if you have already notified our office that your student is not returning.)

School Supply Orders for 2020-21
The Platte City Middle School PTO is once again making your Back to School shopping as easy as it gets! With just a few keystrokes you can have all the supplies you need for your student to start the 2020-21 school year off right. Kits must be ordered (online only) no later than June 5. Student supplies will be mailed directly to your home this year, so what could be easier!?! Please see the attached flyer for website address & account number info for online ordering. Grab and Go Meal Pickup to Continue Through June 29
Our meal distribution sites and bus delivery have been extended and will continue to occur on Mondays and Wednesdays through June 29. Students will receive two days worth of meals on Mondays and three days worth of meals on Wednesdays. Click here for details on the process and current menu. Reminder: Next week meal service days will be Tuesday, May 26, and Wednesday, May 27, due to the Memorial Day holiday on Monday, May 26.
Y Club Enrollment for 2020-21
The Before and After School Program available to families in the Platte County R-3 School District is Y Club. With Y Club before and after school, children in kindergarten through 5th grade will benefit from homework enrichment, physical activity, and small and large group activities with a focus on building community and youth voice and leadership. Full-time and part-time Y Club is available at each of our elementary buildings (Compass, Pathfinder, and Siegrist), along with Y Club on days when school is out of session for inclement weather, seasonal breaks, and other days off (enrollment permitting). Operating hours are each weekday from 6:30 a.m. until school begins, and again after school until 6:00 p.m. Registration is now open. Click here to register.
