Dear Everitt Families:
I hope you all enjoyed your snow day this week! It's always fun to come to school after a snow day and see the tracks of evidence of neighborhood sledding fun.
I was able to sit in on a rehearsal for Shrek the Musical this week. Our trees, rats and Fiona are singing and dancing up a storm. I can't wait to see the final product later this semester.
We've had a couple of reports from our community about unsafe behavior as students are crossing 38th and Kipling on their way home from school. We will remind students at school about the importance of following traffic laws and crossing streets safely. Please remind your children at home as well.
Parent/teacher conferences are next week on February 10th from 4-6:30 pm. These conferences are by invitation only. If you are interested in talking with teachers and did not receive an invitation, please reach out to your child's counselor and they can work with you to set up a time for a meeting.
As you know, the district sent out an email lifting the mask mandate on Friday, February 18th. At that point, we will support the decision that your family makes about whether your child continues to wear a mask at school or not. At Everitt, we will honor people for whatever decision they make.
Thank you for supporting and believing in your neighborhood school. It is our privilege to partner with you!

Lunch Bunch and Thursday Morning Volunteers:
Want to lend a hand at the school? Sign up to spend some time socializing with the students during lunch and recess or on Thursday mornings before late start. Thank you in advance for donating your time and making our community stronger!
Lunches are broken up into 3 sections. With some exceptions, they are generally 6th graders 1st, 7th graders 2nd and 8th graders 3rd. Each lunch is 30 minutes. On Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays they run one after another, on the block days of Wednesday and Thursday there is a 10-15 minute gap between lunch sections. If you want to come for just one or 2 sections that is no problem, but you are also welcome to stay the entire lunch time!
When you arrive go to the main office to sign-in and fill out volunteer paperwork (the first time only) and then head to the cafeteria or library. You can bring an activity (like a football, 4 square ball etc) or just join in with what's going on!
Questions? Email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 720-291-1435 (Dan Weinstein)

Anxiety Support from Ms. Richey
Anxiety is a natural part of our human experience but understanding how it can show up in our children and selves is a necessary tool to appropriately manage and address it, especially in times of stress and challenge. Here are some resources to look at and share with your student to better understand their experience. Check out two articles below that look at the ways stress/anxiety can show up in our children and how to deal with it when it does!

It's time to register for basketball! There is still room on the teams and there are scholarships as well!
Peyton W. - Peyton took a risk when the class environment she was in wasn't supporting her academically. We talked and made some adjustments to help Peyton be in an environment that was better suited to her needs as a student. She is now thriving and working hard in ELA as a reader and writer. Peyton is developing her own advocacy to help her thrive in the best academic environments.
Saylor S. - Saylor sets a fantastic example for our class by showing up, doing her work, and being respectful. She is always positive, is willing to ask questions, and shows kindness to everyone in our community.
Lucia R. - Lucia is always willing to learn--even when it's new and challenging. She brings positivity to the classroom, and I appreciate her sharing her excitement with our classroom!
Tony B. - Tony comes to school every single day with a positive attitude! He is ready to learn and builds positive relationships with peers and adults.
Hank R. - Constantly offering to help clean the classroom so the custodians do not have as much to work on. He even asks to earn candy for his peers.
