PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Tēnā koutou e te whānau

What a day yesterday! We were blessed with fantastic weather and an awesome event! A big thank you to all whanau who came to join in or supported their children to wear their whanau colours. I know everyone had a fantastic time. Thank you to Jane White, our sports co-ordinator who spent many hours organising and delivering such an awesome event!

House of Science

I would like to take this opportunity to thank a very generous whanau member, Mr Bruce Crosby. Bruce has donated over $2000 to the school to provide a platinum membership for the House of Science. The House of Science provides wonderful science boxes ready for classes to use and learn about the theme within, for example electricity, weather ready, may the force be with you and much much more. This membership will allow all children to access these boxes. Our staff and children LOVE these boxes so we are very grateful to Bruce. We are so lucky to have such amazing whanau!

2022 year book

A big thank you to Jemma Dixon who has put together this year's Yearbook for us. She has spent many hours taking and collating photos and putting them together. The draft of the Year book can be viewed at the office and orders are being taken now. Books are $20 and will be able to be picked up before the end of the year. Great Christmas present idea for extended whānau or for the children themselves. Go to Kindo to order a 2022 Yearbook. Orders close this Thursday (8 December) and will be delivered early next week.

Year 6 Graduation Assembly

We warmly invite all whanau of Year 6 students to join us for their graduation ceremony in the MPS on Thursday at 9.15am. The ceremony will last approximately an hour and will include all one hundred Year 6’s receiving their graduation certificate! The Year 6 trophies are also being presented. This is a formal assembly and we are excited to be able to host it in this format after so long in Covid. See you there!

New classroom block will soon be open!

Get ready to be confused….. The new block is going to be named Hillary and Rutherford. The existing Rutherford classes are being removed off site and we wanted to retain the team name so we opted to transfer the name to the new block. The existing Hilary block is going to become a pastoral centre and will be renamed Te Puna Atawhai Puna (noun)= wellspring, flowing spring as in freshwater | Atawhai (verb)= to be kind, kindness, to care for others.

The new block will have year 5 and 6 learners working in the spaces therefore in 2023 the senior classes will be Hillary and Rutherford.

Moving week

Next week the majority of the school classes will be moving spaces as our new block is almost ready. As you can see above the majority of the year levels will be in new spaces for next year.

From Monday, tamariki will be helping move the classroom equipment and small items of furniture to their new spaces. Formal classes will not be taking place.

Hats

A reminder that it is compulsory for all tamariki to be wearing a hat when outside. Please ensure that your child has their hat with them at all times and that they have put sunscreen on in the morning.

PB4L

This week’s focus continues to be on problem solving. The key ideas we will be working on are

  • I can be proactive in using problem solving skills

  • I think about how others might feel/react, before I act

  • I use kind and respectful words to talk about how I am feeling

  • I follow classroom and school expectations for solving problems

  • I listen respectfully to the opinions of others, even if when they differ from my own

Have a great week everyone!

Library Helpers Needed Please

Library books and Readers

The learning centre will be closing to students this Friday 25th November. Please can you help your child/ren to have all library books and readers returned by this date. It would also be appreciated if you could check at home for any extra books or readers and send them back as well. We don't mind if you have had them for ages - we would just like them back!

Library Stocktake Helpers

We are just starting our end of year stocktake and need some helpers! This involves scanning the library barcodes on the back of our readers and books, tidying shelves etc. If you are able to help with this, or have any questions, please contact Lynley Gillanders lgillanders@goldensands.school.nz Any help would be very much appreciated.
