🎉October Letter from the Principal

Dear Parents/Guardians,

The leaves are changing colors and mornings have changed from hot and hazy to chilly and crisp. As the seasons change, so too does our school year as we shift into high gear with five weeks of school behind us. Can you believe we welcomed students back five weeks

Our year has been highly positive and successful thus far. Every Panther has adjusted and taken on school with the spirit and determination we expect. Our students have been gracious and thankful to be back in school, while being happy to see their friends. Our amazing faculty have done a tremendous job leading our students in the classroom, playing fields and during extra-curricular activities. To see them in action, leading and coaching our kids in all of the academic and co-curricular areas has inspired me each day. Wonderful job everyone!

When a plan works out well it is sometimes easy to forget that support is always there should you or your child need it. We continue to have Homework Lab available to our students Monday - Thursday from 2:30 - 3:50 pm. In addition, beginning Monday, October 3, we are beginning our After School Program in the content areas of ELA & Math. Please contact your child’s guidance counselor for additional information.

Our students and staff are also hard at work planning for our annual Spirit Week beginning on Tuesday, October 11 - Friday, October 14. All students are invited to join their classmates and sport teams for the parade beginning on Friday, October 14 starting at the High School tennis courts at 6pm. Show your Panther Pride and please join us.

Your support of all of us here at John G. Borden Middle School is felt universally. We appreciate your trust, patience and dedication to education. Together we will continue to set our children up for lives full of success, happiness and kindness, knowing that hard work and determination help to make it all happen.

In short, thank you!

Nick Pantaleone, Principal

* Early Dismissal: Thursday, November 3*

The Wallkill Central School District has scheduled its annual test of the Evacuation and Early Dismissal Plan for Thursday, November 3, 2022. This test is required by law and will be part of a drill encompassing all of Ulster County. The purpose of the drill is to test the evacuation procedures of the District’s Emergency Management/Disaster Preparedness Plan. This date is also an excellent time to review procedures at home in the event your child(ren) arrive home early and no one is there.

Students will be released no more than fifteen minutes earlier than their normal dismissal time. Please make the appropriate arrangements for the early arrival of your child(ren) as a result of this drill.

Thank you for your cooperation.

P.B.I.S. Events

Oct 19th - "Path to Greatness" with Tay Fisher

On Wednesday, October 19 JGBMS is excited to welcome back former Harlem Globe Trotter, "Firefly" Tay Fisher. During Tay's assembly he will address the following message with our students:

Perseverance, working hard to be successful, overcoming life obstacles and failures, setting college and career goals, respecting other cultures and more while using images, videos and personal experiences in a PowerPoint to capture their attention to be great in life.

Oct 28th - "Bash the Trash"

"Bash the Trash" brings amazing performances, workshops and residencies to your school! We teach students how to build musical instruments from reused and repurposed materials, connecting to science and the environment. Our cool and weird instruments made from trash are a great way to explore current issues of sustainability, climate change and plastic pollution.

🚗Drop Off/ Pick Up Procedures

AM Drop Off: (7:00 – 7:30 am) Students are to be dropped off at the designated Student Drop Off area located on 3rd Street (Behind the building) no earlier than 7 am. As a reminder, there is one-way traffic during drop-off.

PM Pick Up: Students are to be picked up at dismissal at 2:10 pm in the same designated location as Drop Off. If you need to pick your child up earlier than 2:10 pm you must come to the Main Lobby Entrance and sign them out. Photo ID is required.

NOTE: Any changes to your child's dismissal plan must be submitted in writing to the main office.

🎒 Backpacks

All bookbags must remain in student lockers, throughout the school day. This expectation is a return to the long-standing procedure of past years. Homeroom teachers will work with students to best utilize their time and locker use. The bookbag expectation was suspended last year due to COVID-19 safety reasons. Please encourage your child to use their locker each day.
