*** I AM GRATEFUL FOR THE GHV COMMUNITY! ***
Parents/Guardians - Thanks for sharing your amazing teenagers with us and for being our partner in education. I've met with many of you face-to-face, chatted with you at activities and events, and also communicated with you via email or phone. As parents/guardians and educators, we have one enormous goal in common - We want what is best for our kids!
Staff & Teachers - Thank you for sharing your time and talent at GHVHS. I see your commitment and dedication. Educating our youth is a very important task, and I'm glad we are on this journey together.
Students - When people ask me, "What is the best part of your job?", without hesitation I reply with confidence, "The kids!" And I sincerely mean that. I love seeing you in the hallways, talking with you at lunch, and following all your activities. You are all so talented in so many ways!
As your principal, my goal is to do whatever I can to help steer you on a positive path for your future. That means working with your teachers to educate you, believing in you and building your confidence, teaching you how to cope and deal with disappointment, and encouraging you to have ambition and grit. You are all amazing young people with your own unique strengths and talents. I've said it before and I'll say it again - I love being your principal! You are amazing!
I'm Thankful for the Journey!
Sometimes life surprises us, both in good ways and in challenging ones. The part I am always grateful for is that in times of celebration and sadness, I have people to share it with. We can lean on each other, care for each other, and appreciate each other. This Thanksgiving season especially, I will count my many blessings and appreciate the people in my life....and that includes YOU!
*** ALL STATE VOCAL MUSIC FESTIVAL ***
76th Annual All State Musical Festival
This year, two of our GHV Choir students were selected for the Iowa All-State Music Festival, which was held this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday in Ames. GHV junior Wyatt Haubrich was selected as Bass 2 for the second year in a row, and sophomore Jessa Heitland was also selected a second time as Alto 2.
Thousands of students audition each year, with only a small portion of students having the honor of being selected. The All-State music festival is said to be made up of the top 2% of musicians in the state. Students can be audition every year of high school, although due to the difficulty of being selected, the vast majority of students are only selected to participate one of their four years. Wyatt and Jessa are both participating for the second time due to their outstanding talent!
Wyatt and Jessa got to sing with a choir of 600 students from across the state. The singers worked with Dr. Bruce Chamberlain, the now retired choir director at University of Arizona, who was also a former professor at UNI! (Pictured below).
Students spent a majority of their weekend rehearsing on the Iowa State campus and ended off their weekend with a final concert that combined the All-State Choir, Band, and Orchestra in an amazing musical display.
If anyone is curious about viewing the concert, it will be broadcast on Iowa Public Television at 7:00 PM on Thanksgiving.
A big thanks goes out to Mr. Ironside, Jessa, and Wyatt for their hard work and dedication. You make us proud to be GHV Cardinals!
*** IOWA CHEER HONOR SQUAD ***
here were more than 250 cheerleaders from around the state participating. Preparation for the performance included an 8 hour practice, and a 5 hour long practice. Then they performed their routine during the 2A and 3A state football championship games in the Cedar Falls UNI dome. They did an amazing job!
We are so happy to see all of their hard work paying off. Thanks for representing GHVHS. We are so proud of you!
Students, YOU.ARE.AWESOME!
