September Calendar

Big picture

September Academic Focus

In Reading, we will be learning about characteristics of good readers and routines. We will also take the DIBELS on Wednesday, September 18th. This universal screener helps to guide our instruction throughout the school year. We will also learn and practice our first standard this month, which is Main Idea. Weekly assessments will come home once we start our standard work for you to see how your child is doing.

In Math, we will be mastering our multiplication facts during the first few weeks of school. We will then start learning our first math standards which will be data and multi-digit mulitplication. Assessments will be sent home so you can see how your child is doing.

In writing, we will begin our first genre, Personal Narratives. After our first field trip to History Fest, students will write a personal narrative about thier experience at History Fest!

In Science, we will study the scientific method, geology, design, earth's resources, matter, and electricity. We will do some experiments in the classroom working around these areas for hands-on learning!

History Fest

On Friday, October 11th, we will be taking our first field trip to History Fest in Mankato. Look for forms coming home this month for your child and for opportunities to Chaperone. It is a highlight of many 4th graders for the year!
