Update from the week of October 26th
What's Happening? Counseling Lessons
**If your student is Plan B, their counseling lessons are paused until November 16th.
1st: We are going to start lessons from Second Step - a program that focuses on social-emotional learning and has tons of resources. They also provide "Home Links" to help school and home be more connected. We just finished up our lessons on listening to directions and you can find the home link here.
2nd: Second graders are now beginning the Second Step curriculum! They are learning and practicing skills for getting along with others. This week, second graders are defining respect and discussing how it helps them be better learners. We are also learning how to be fully present and focus our attention on the speaker.
Your student listed to a new song called "Be a Learner". You may just hear them singing the words around your home! Ask them to teach you the words. :)
3rd: We are wrapping up our Social-Emotional Coping Skills Lessons. Students learned how and when to use calm down strategies. We also discussed how to use positive self-talk to help us through difficult situations. This week was mostly reviewing these ideas and then we'll move onto the Second Step curriculum.
4th: In fourth grade, students are learning the meaning of empathy and what it means to walk in another person's shoes. Students have been spending time sharing what respect means to them and how everyone deserves to be treated with respect. We are now working on being present and listening to understand others. This is how we are practicing: focus, don't interrupt, ask questions to learn more, repeat back to show them you understand
5th: We are wrapping up our Social-Emotional Coping Skills Lessons. Students learned how and when to use calm down strategies. We also discussed how to solve a problem we might have with another person. This week was mostly reviewing these ideas and then we'll move onto the Second Step curriculum.

P2 ASSEMBLIES
October 26-31, 2020
CREATIVITY is the P2 trait this week.
To help them continue these lessons and practice in daily life, you can use the P2 Book List or P2 for Families resource (password is "P2"). (Links below).
If your student was recognized in the Quarter 1 P2 Assembly, you can access their award certificate here.
We also encourage you to have all of your family members take the character strength survey. This can be a great way to learn more about P2 and connect with LME!
