Summit Virtual Open House

In case you missed it last week, Summit's Virtual Open House videos are available. Our teachers did a great job putting their videos together. Please enjoy and let them know if you have questions.

Understanding How to Help Your Student with Assignments

We know that being able to understand what your students are required to do at home on distance days is important to you and the success of our students and school. To help parents better understand what students are doing in the classroom and what has been assigned on distance days, our teachers will be sending a document out electronically every Monday with a title of the assignment for each day of the week. Students will receive a copy of this as well via email.

Canvas is the platform used by teachers to post student assignments and resources. We highly encourage you to look through your students' Canvas account or set up your own parent account for a more detailed look at assignments and curriculum. The link below will help with all things Canvas. https://sites.google.com/edmondps.net/canvas/home

Summit Parent Club

Thank you, thank you, thank you to all of those that contacted our parent club president and treasurer to offer their support to our Summit Parent Club. We had several parents reach out to volunteer to fill vacancies on the executive board. We are very grateful for your help.

Historically, we have always enjoyed the security of having a back-up volunteer in each executive board position, so if you have been thinking about volunteering, it's not too late.

Cookie Dough Fundraiser Starts this Week

Every year Summit Parent Club asks for your help with our annual cookie dough fundraiser, which brings in more than $18,000 yearly to enhance learning and support activities at Summit. This is one of two fundraising events that the Parent Club organizes every year. This year Club Choice Fundraising has made it safer and more convenient for our students and families to participate by allowing customers to order on-line and by providing direct shipment to all those that order. The online ordering will allow our families to reach out to friends and family outside of Edmond or even Oklahoma. Thank you in advance for your support of our school and Summit Parent Club.

Chromebook Insurance Deadline is Tuesday

Remember, all families are strongly encouraged to purchase an STPP for their students to help protect you from large fees associated with accidental damage to the school-issued Chromebook. Search InTouch on the district website to purchase the 20-21 STPP. This plan is only $25 - your option to purchase this protection plan ends 9/18. Once purchased, the plan is good for the entire school year.

Big picture

Think Before You Post

Summit will be kicking off a "Think Before You Post Campaign" October 5th-9th. During this week our 7th grade students will participate in a presentation and discussion with our School Resource Officer on various topics related to social media and technology. The goal of this campaign is to educate students and families of the serious consequences that can arise as a result of posting and/or reposting hoax threats, obscene photos of themselves or others, or hate speech and bullying through the #ThinkBeforeYouPost campaign. More information about this campaign, as well as other educational materials about social media use will be posted to the district’s website, www.edmondschools.net.

Please Talk to Your Students about the Dangers of Social Media

Always have them ask themselves these questions before posting anything:
T- Is it the TRUTH?

K- Is it KIND?

Last Chance for the Census

$1,675 per person each year for the next ten years...that is how much filling out your Census is worth in Federal funding! September is your last opportunity to be counted, and it just takes a couple of minutes. If your family has not participated yet, please click on the link and be counted: https://my2020census.gov/

Census results affect planning and funding for education—including programs such as Head Start, Pell Grants, school lunches, rural education, adult education, and grants for preschool special education. Find out more about how census results impact Edmond here: https://2020census.gov/en/community-impact.html

November 3rd is a Presidential election as well as other important county, state, and federal seats. The last day to register to vote is October 9th. You can find out all about registering here: https://www.ok.gov/elections/Voter_Info/Register_to_Vote/

The Oklahoma Voter Portal is a great tool as well to check your registration, see sample ballots, check the status of your absentee ballot (if you requested one), and more! Due to COVID-19, some polling places have changed over the past few months. Whilst you should receive a new voter registration card, you can check your polling place on the portal too! Click here for all the info: https://www.ok.gov/elections/OVP.html

The census is still going on! If your family has not participated yet, respond now at https://www.census.gov/
