Aiming to Keep You Informed
December 7, 2018
From the Office
This week was full of opportunities for students to demonstrate their skills in many areas! Students participated in Winter MAP testing; this is a great indicator and benchmark for students to demonstrate their knowledge to this point and help guide teachers in future instructional planning. Our Band and Choir took their show on the road for the annual tour performing at both DuJardin and Erickson elementary schools then Yorktown Mall! Additionally, our girls basketball teams finished the season strong and showed how much they have grown as individuals and as a team! Congratulations to all the girls, Mr. Buchholz and Mr. Cikesh on another successful season!
We were also thrilled to recognize and highlight Westfield students for their academic achievements during the 1st trimester at our Honor Roll recognition on Thursday morning! Thank you to everyone who made it possible, the students for their hard work and all the families for their support!
Have a wonderful weekend,
Principal

Parents: The 5 Essentials Survey is live and we would love your feedback!
The 5 Essentials Survey is administered by the Illinois State Board of Education and measures schools in 5 key areas: Effective Leaders, Collaborative Teachers, Involved Families, Supportive Environment, and Ambitious Instruction; it should take about 10 minutes to complete and is phone friendly! We really value your feedback and we encourage you to complete the survey by clicking the link above and type in "Dupage" and "Westfield Middle School". Thank you in advance for your time! Students and staff will also be sent a survey link after the break.
Innovation Night
You will soon begin to hear your students talking about their Innovation Night projects. Last year we piloted a "Genius Hour" through Acceleration; this year we are going to build on that experience and students will be able to choose a problem or question they are interested and passionate about, research it and create or propose solutions. This will be a longer project and the culmination will replace our traditional "Portfolio Night" from years past. Portfolios will still be curated and students can share them with parents at home.
During Innovation Night students will share their project with parents, family, and community members. Attendees will be invited in to walk around, listen to student presentations and ask them questions! The tentative date for Innovation Night at Westfield is May 16th! We are looking forward to watching students navigate these problems and ideas while learning critical life-long skills!
