PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE - DONNA BURKE
We have so much going on at Bumpus!!!
We have had band concerts & choir concerts this week plus we will have our Awards Days coming up next week.
Friday the 13th is a BIG DAY! We are giving out yearbooks to everyone who purchased them, and we have the 8th grade celebration after lunch.
We also have the dance Friday night. This will be a fun night for all of our students. Here are a few points to review prior to the dance.
6th grade - 5:00-6:30 - Turn in the first entrance of the school and drop-off and pick up is at the front of the building.
7th/8th grade - 7:00-8:30 - The 7th grade will turn in the first entrance of the school and the students will enter on the bus side of the building. The 8th grade will turn in the second entrance of the school and the students will enter on the carpool side of the building.
ALL 7th and 8th graders will be picked up on the carpool side of the building.
Please make sure you pick up your students at the appropriate time.
Students should attend school on the day of the dance.
Historically, students do not attend Bumpus dances as couples; many come in groups.
This is a dance, not a prom. You are coming to the dance to show off your dance moves and spend time with your friends. Pick an outfit that is comfortable, fits our dress code, and makes you feel great! This is not a time to purchase formal dresses, rent tuxedos, Limos or party buses.
This event is strictly for Bumpus students only.
Students will need to be in dress code for this event.
Once the students enter the dance, they are not allowed to leave without an adult.
Anyone leaving the dance may not re-enter.
Appropriate behavior and conduct is expected at the dance. Students disobeying school rules and disturbing the rights of others will be dismissed from the dance. Parents/Guardians will be notified of any undesired behavior and will be requested to pick up their child immediately.
More info about the dance is listed in the slide below.
The students will also have the opportunity to buy pizza, drinks and other snacks at the dance.
Don't forget our Awards Days next week!
May 18 - 6th Awards Day - 9:15am-10:45am - Parents/Guardians invited
May 19 - 8th Awards Day - 9:15am - 10:45am - Parents/Guardians invited
May 19 - 7th Awards Day - 1:15pm - 2:45pm - Parents/Guardians invited
Last, but not least, we know our carpool can back up in the mornings and afternoons. However, we have really worked on the afternoon process and it usually is completed by 3:42-3:46 which is not bad considering we do not release until 3:30.
Please be considerate of the people who live in the surrounding neighborhoods. We have people parking in neighborhoods to pick up students and this is creating an unsafe situation. We have people on the road in the carpool line picking up students who are walking, and this backs up cars and is not a safe practice. Finally, we have people entering neighborhoods and turning around to get in the carpool line, and this creates traffic issues for the neighborhood. None of these practices are illegal, but we would like to make sure our students are safe, and we would like to create alliances with the surrounding neighborhoods.
As I have said, we have a lot of events coming up, so it is super important to stay organized, make good choices and be kind to one another!

Notes from the Nurse
Dear Parent/Guardian,
The end of the school year requires some housekeeping tasks throughout the school. The health room is no exception.
An adult will be required to pick up any medications that your child may have in the health room, unless your child has specific written permissions to carry the medication on their person. Medications should be picked up by noon on May 27, 2021. Any medications left at school will be destroyed after noon on May 27 unless specific arrangements have been made with the Nurse.
When your child returns to school in August a new medication form with parent and physician signature will be required. This will be sent to you along with a Health Care Plan for next year ( if one is required) that you will need to sign and return along with the medication and the form. One form will be required for each medication brought to school for the 2021-2022 school year.
If you have any questions please call me at 205-439-2230 or email me at mschmith@hoover.k12.al.us.
Have a safe and happy summer
Melanie Schmith, RN
School Nurse
If your child has ANY Covid-like symptoms of illness, please keep him/her at home until you can determine the cause of the symptoms. If your child has these symptoms and they undergo a test for COVID-19, they must remain home until the COVID-19 test results are reported to you. Please refer to the ADPH Back to School Guidance or your personal Healthcare Professional if you have questions.
If your child has been exposed to a positive case of COVID, they may continue to come to school as long as they do not show any symptoms. If the exposed child begins to show symptoms, please keep them home and contact the school nurse immediately.
Students who report to the nurse with two or more COVID like symptoms, must go home from school regardless of vaccination status. These students must either be tested for COVID or quarantine at home for 5 days from the start date of the symptoms. A student may return to school with a negative COVID test result form and a physician’s return to school note. If no COVID test is performed, then the student must quarantine at home for 5 days & must be completely symptom free and wear a well-fitting mask for the remainder of the 10 days.
If your child returns to school early under the new 5 day quarantine policy, they must be completely symptom free, and wear a well-fitting mask for the remainder of the 10 days. As a courtesy, if your child is returning early please contact attendance at jprescott@hoover.k12.al.us or call the health room at 439-2230.

MR. DOSS' PHOTOGRAPHY CLASSES
PHOTOGRAPHY CLASSES NEED YOUR OLD PHOTO-GEAR… Have any old or broken cameras, darkroom equipment or other photography equipment that you no longer want or would like to donate? Consider donating it to Mr. Doss’ photography classes for student use. Mr. Doss teaches traditional photography concepts as well as Digital Photography to the 7th & 8th Grade. He is always looking for ways to enrich student’s learning and even broken cameras can be used as props or taken apart to display the inner workings or for spare parts. Things to consider donating are old and/or broken cameras (FILM AND DIGITAL), photography books, darkroom equipment, memory cards, tripods, cases, lighting, camera battery chargers or batteries, etc.; we can use them all. Props are always welcome as well. If you have anything you would be interested in donating, simply bring it to the school and drop it off at the front office or have your child deliver it for you. Anything photography related is greatly appreciated and will be used to enhance our developing young photographer’s learning experiences. Thank you in advance for your support of our program and feel free to contact Mr. Doss if you have any questions or concerns.
