Reptile Review
April 2023
Principal's Update
Dear Reptile Families,
April begins our first round of FAST Assessments. We know our students have worked hard all year, and our teachers have worked very hard to prepare them. Please make sure your child gets a good night's sleep, eats breakfast, and arrives to school on time. The remainder of this month and the month of May are full of many assessment points. Please see below the exact dates of each assessment.
April is also a busy month with lots of exciting events! This month, we have a Kindergarten musical, fourth and fifth grade showcase, Chuck E. Cheese Family Night, our Exceptional Student Extravaganza, Kindness Run, Fun Run, Culmination to our Fine Arts Academies, Book Fair and many more events! Please make sure to look through this newsletter and mark these FUN dates on your calendar!
As always, we appreciate all your support.
Thank you,
Colleen Wilkinson
Principal

We also highly encourage all families with children who will be 4 years old on or before September 1, 2023 to enroll in Florida's Voluntary PreKindergarten program. This program allows all students to participate in a free PreK program to prepare them for Kindergarten. Studies have shown that students who attend preschool are much more successful in Kindergarten. There are various settings where families can use the VPK voucher, such as private daycares and public schools. Please click the following link for more information and to apply!

P.E. News
Thank you so much to our Field Day volunteers!! It was a super event and the volunteers worked so hard. We thank you very much!
Our next event is the Running Club’s Fun Run, April 14, at 10:45. Our running club will be running one mile, a culminating event, celebrating a successful year of getting fit and having fun. This is also the last month to run Reptile Run. Students will be trying to meet their goal of 25 miles to earn a free t-shirt. Some dedicated students are well on their way to earning 30 or 40 mile shirts!!
We are eagerly awaiting a Buccaneer Football Clinic for third, fourth, and fifth grade students. Please fill out the waiver if you are the parent of a third, fourth, or fifth grader. This is a standard requirement and students will not be able to participate if the form is not filled out. What an amazing experience for our Reptiles! Go Bucs!!!
Last but not least we are proud to announce that NRES raised $2,100 for the American Heart Association. Way to support a worthy cause!!
Music News
All Grades – This month, students are learning about Elements of Music through singing, movement, and playing instruments.
Kindergarten is preparing for their upcoming Little Library Performance!
Several fourth and fifth graders are tuning up their musical talents to display during our Music Showcase!
Art News
All students in art class are working hard to create an Art Book. In this book, students will have an opportunity to review the seven elements of art and the principles of design that we have learned this year. Students will be able to use a variety of tools and processes to create their book.
Congratulations to the following students for participating in the Judicial Art Display. Wynter Collins, Nathan Martin, Jonay Mention, David Sorrentini, Atticus Staford, and Kaedyn Takach.
The Judicial Building Art Display is held in Dade City courthouse and is an excellent event to attend. Students, parents, and teachers will be invited to a reception with live entertainment and refreshments to honor the students entitled The All-American Youth Art Walk.
The reception dates are April 25th from 5-6:30 p.m and more information will be sent to the students who are participating. The artwork will be displayed for a year and will be returned to each student.
Thank you for your support and keep the beautiful art flowing.
Thank you for your support and we hope to see you all at the art show.
Good Luck Odyssey of the Mind!
Congratulations to our 3 Odyssey of the Mind Teams that represented New River in our regional competition.
We have two of our Odyssey of the Mind teams representing New River Elementary School at the State Competition in Orlando on April 8th. Please help us wish them luck!
The team members are Caleb Perez, Mackenzie Raines, Connor Raines, Terrion Jones, Hudson Haley, Joey Goforth, Avery McDowell, Rae Moline, Jace Smith, Liam Smith, and Emmy Wilkinson!
If you have never heard of Odyssey of the Mind, it is a creative problem-solving program involving students from kindergarten through college. Team members work together to solve a long-term problem and present their solution to the problem at a competition. If this sounds like something your child would love, the new teams will form in the fall of next school year!
