Winter Break: December 18 through January 3
Principal's Message
Hello!
We've had a busy school year so far! It's hard to believe we're already at winter break. I can't thank our teaching staff (teachers, IAs, custodial, kitchen crew and Discovery Club) enough for all their hard work and positive attitudes as we continue teaching and learning during this pandemic. Also, thank you parents for helping your children stay healthy and in school daily.
We've had record breaking events this year. Our recent Holiday Shop was no exception. Kids seemed ecstatic to have it back and they loved being able to buy presents for their family. The Holiday Shop grossed over $10,000, which is the most ever. I'd like to send out a big, special thank you to Taja Ferrarini for organizing the entire event. Without her taking this on, it never would have happened. Also, a special shout out to her mom, Teri Accurso, for all her yearly buying and storing the wonderful items for sale. Additionally, thank you to the following parents for all their volunteer hours, which truly made the Holiday Shop go so smoothly: Christina Shirk, Erica Drost, Akiima Ruddy, Kimberly Aussieker, Marti Stanbach, Kim Hammons, Heather Linder, Jenny Stefanek, Joy Boone, Lily Kazimir, Lindsay McDermid, Mackenzie McDowell, Melanie Hunter, Natalie Cassel, Natalie Rioux, Nicole Hernandez, Rachel Larsen, Rive Plate, Robin Spronk, Serene Katschke, Stephanie Cook, Todd Lubitsch, and Tangie Rutherford. Thank you all!
Additionally, I want to extend a big thank you to those who bought and donated gifts to our Annual Giving Tree program. We were able to assist five LeGette families with holiday gifts and a meal. Your generosity is always appreciated!
Some of you may have read the district news article related to school threats being encouraged over TikTok. As of this newsletter, there haven't been any reports of threats in San Juan Unified. We're obviously staying alert, but be rest assured that LeGette is not being affected by this issue. If something does come up, you'll be contacted immediately (as with any safety issue).
Don't forget, we have some great events after the new year. Our winter Enrichment Program classes start up on January 10 and classes are filling up fast. See the article below for registration links. Also, our first band concert of the year will take place on January 18. And finally, be sure to mark your calendar for our first Drive-Thru Pancake Breakfast, which will be held on Saturday, January 22, 9-10 a.m. Thank you Lenhart family for organizing!
As you hopefully know, LeGette will start the two-year modernization process sometime in July 2022. All of us are excited to be getting a new MP Room, classrooms, and other great things. Students will love coming to school even more than they do now! This coming January or February, we'll be holding parent information nights. So, be sure to stay up-to-date on your LeGette News reading.
Our PTO officers and parents who get involved do remarkable things for our school and students. But, it's usually the same 15% who do all the work. I encourage you to read the PTO Corner below to see how you can help us out. We're looking for interested parents to run for board positions and to chair or even co-chair some of the events. Please don't worry. If you get a little involved now, there will still be parents around to help you out. No one is left high and dry to figure things out. That's the beauty of our school community- we all help where we can. So please...consider helping our PTO.
Lastly, on behalf of our entire LeGette staff, I want to wish you and your family Happy Holidays and ask that you please stay healthy and safe. See you all on January 4, 2022.
As always, if you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to contact me at school. Thank, you!

Combating Cold and Flu: Parent Tips!
As the weather gets colder, the risk of catching and spreading sicknesses increases. “Combat Cold & Flu” offers tips to help families in your school stay healthy this season. (The .PDF is also included below.)
And, as many of you have experienced already, students who experience many of the same symptoms as a cold or flu will be asked to stay home until symptoms significantly improve and will require a COVID-19 test or doctor's note with an alternative diagnosis.
The level of importance in wearing masks is extremely high, because we want everyone to avoid catching COVID-19, as well as the cold and flu.
