Perspective on College Admission
Colleges have many priorities, overt and hidden, that inform their admission decisions. Acceptances are not always about just GPA, test scores, and extracurricular activities. Colleges might be seeking students from different geographic areas, for example; sometimes the band desperately needs tuba players; and in some instances schools are seeking students committed to a certain major in order to keep that program afloat. All this to say that the decisions you receive can be more about a match/mismatch between your profile and what colleges happen to need. Grieve the outcome that was not what you hoped for, and then return your focus to the opportunities that await.
We at Crosby Scholars already know that your work ethic, focus, compassion, intelligence, and determination will get you where you want to go in life, independent of where you pursue post-secondary education. We are proud of all of you and look forward to our continued partnership.
Stay On Top of Scholarship Applications!!
Applying for scholarships takes time and effort similar to when you applied to college. There are deadlines, essays, applications, and even interviews you must take into consideration. Reach out to your Crosby Scholars Senior Advisor if you need assistance finding scholarships and remember you can still submit your essays for review!

Cultural Awareness Scholarship Opportunity
Pauline Viardot’s Cinderella is a re-telling of the well-known fairy tale, composed in an operetta style that combines musical numbers and dialogue. Madame Viardot wrote it to be performed by her voice students in her Parisian salon. Now, it will be live-streamed to yours!
Cinderella will have two, virtual performances:
Friday, March 19 at 8:00 p.m.
Sunday, March 21 at 2:00 p.m.
Details on how to secure FREE tickets will be posted in the Crosby Scholars Student Portal soon. Crosby Scholars seniors who view either virtual performance will be eligible to win a $250 Cultural Awareness Scholarship. Watch your email and visit your portal for details.

Helpful Habits to Start Now
Going off to college will open up new doors for you and you'll begin uncovering new facets about yourself and life. But don't let your newfound freedom distract you from your responsibilities! Here are some habits you should try to have down before you are off on your own next fall:
- Figure out which study habits work for you, i.e. note cards, group/individual studying, one-on-one with professors, etc.
- Be organized- keep your personal space clean and tidy, especially if you will be having a roommate! If you don't already, keep an agenda or planner to keep up with all of your assignments and deadlines.
- Establish an exercise routine- this will be useful in maintaining your physical energy, helping you concentrate in your studies, and is a great stress reliever!
- Balance hobbies and your studies- college is a fast-paced, busy environment and it is easy to prioritize your work over other fun activities; don't lose sight of the activities you enjoy doing!
- Doing laundry- no one will be responsible for doing your laundry except for yourself. Make sure you know the basics to laundry before your off on your own!

The College I Will Attend Is . . . .
Many of you have received college acceptances and have decided where you will matriculate. Please update your Crosby Scholars Student Portal with your college name after you make your final decision. Follow the steps below.
- Log into your Crosby Scholars Student Portal
- Click the Profile tab
- Click Edit This Info above the personal info box
- Scroll to the bottom of the page. The last line will be a drop down box for College Name where the student can select the school.
- Once the field is populated, click the Update button to save changes.
- If the college name is not listed, please email seniorprogram@crosbyscholars.org or text 336-777-7648 with your name, high school, and name of the college/university, and we will add it to the list.
A few notes:
- Seniors cannot see the College Name selection until they click Edit this Info; once the field is populated, it will show on the Profile page.
- Schools are listed by their official name, not abbreviations or nicknames.
- There are options for military branches and gap year for students who do not plan to enroll in a 2-or-4-year school right away.
Virtual Calming Room
Allow yourself time to adjust to these changes, and don't condemn yourself if it takes longer than expected. But also take care of your physical, mental, and emotional health; it is doubly difficult to navigate new life circumstances when not practicing self-care. Check out the Virtual Calming Room link below created by Julie Cunningham with special exercises that cater to your well-being!
