COUNSELORS CORNER
November is Career Development Month!
November is National Career Development Month! In an effort to celebrate the important process of exploring our career interests, students will be working on their Educational Development Plans (EDPs). The primary emphasis of an EDP is to develop a student’s career goals and a plan of action for reaching those goals. The components of an EDP include interest exploration, career assessment & results, career goals, and educational or training goals.
Students will use Xello, an award winning career exploration software, to complete their Educational Development Plans during the month of November. Students can access Xello from home as well and we encourage you to ask your child about the program and have them share their interests and results. It’s never too early for students to plan for their future!
World Kindness Day
Did you know that world kindness day is in the month of November? This year’s theme is Kindness makes you live longer. November also hosts the holiday of Thanksgiving. This month has so much potential for positivity, gratitude and kindness! To honor that, we are having a school wide poster contest! All students are invited to participate! Students are encouraged to create a poster about what they are thankful for or what brings joy and gratitude to their life!
Students can create a drawing, write a poem/song, or be creative in their own way! Students are welcome to work with a partner. Each winner will receive a VIP lunch in the 5th and 6th grade office with 4 friends! DUE DATE: Monday, November 14th.
Additionally, we rolled out a “Caught Being Kind” initiative at our staff meeting this week. Staff members are encouraged to recognize students acting like leaders, going above and beyond, and having a positive impact on our school community. The goal of this project is to foster a positive and helpful culture at Novi Meadows.
INVENTION CONVENTION INFORMATION
Do you like creating, designing or inventing new ideas? Then the Invention Convention at Novi Meadows is for you!
This is a competition to showcase an original invention at the local, state and national level. There are optional weekly meetings December-February where you can collaborate and learn
the design-thinking process along the way. Students can work alone or in a group no larger than 4.
If you are interested please attend the informational meeting with your parents on November 10 from 6pm-7pm on Google Meet.
