Principal Connection - A Note From Mrs. Seniura:

Dear Dorr Families,

We have some fun events planned for the students as this year comes to a close. Preschool Graduation, Third Grade Lock In, Field Day, Dorr Citizen Award and End of Testing Celebration are a few. In the past parents have been able to join us. This year however, we will share the events via pictures or ZOOM as we are still adhering to the no volunteer guidelines due to COVID. We look forward to the day some normalcy returns to the halls of Dorr with parents and volunteers on site!

Best Regards,

Mrs. Seniura

Important Reminder To Parents

As you have seen in our recent communication, Dorr Elementary has had some cases of COVID 19. In an effort to promote health and safety in our community, please wear a mask and respect social distancing while waiting in the pick up line at the end of the day. If you forget your mask we ask that you wait in your car until the line subsides and then walk to the door.

Your efforts to help curb the spread of COVID 19 is greatly appreciated,

Passion Is The Mission - Preschool Teacher Receives Accolades For A Job Well Done!

Teachers are some of the most passionate people. They teach, inspire, and mold students to be productive and successful adults. All week long Dorr Elementary has been celebrating its teachers and recognizing the tireless hours put in to make the school day go off without a hitch, especially in a year like no other. Recently our preschool teacher, Laura Wierckz, received special recognition from the parent of a former student.

Ashley Symons has sent 3 children to Mrs. Wierckz preschool program. She is sending her 4th to her this fall. Ashley says, “ Mrs. Wierckz holds a special place in my heart. She has helped me transition my boys from being at home full time, to being in school.” Ashley pointed out that Mrs. Wierckz has a gentle way with the kids, giving them extra snuggles when they have a hard time leaving mom or dad. The transformation of these preschool students from little babies when they arrive in the fall to “big kids” ready to enter school full time in the spring is impressive.

Mrs. Wierckz has been teaching preschool for 31 years, and it shows. She has a special way of making a lasting impression on students. Preschool isn’t all about ABC’s and 123’s. Preschool is the foundation on which a students entire education sits. She creates iron clad foundations with these students and gives them a piece of her passion to carry with them.

This week, Mrs. Wierckz was chosen as one of the recipients of a children’s book written by Liz Marie Galvan, an interior designer from Caledonia Michigan who has been featured on Good Morning America several times for her decorating ideas. Liz asked her social media followers to nominate a teacher and share the impact they made in the life of students. Ashley shared her story and Mrs. Wierckz was one of the lucky winners. She will receive the signed copy of the book to share with her classroom later this month.
