Weekly Update- December 6, 2019
This is a lengthy update and contains some important information.
Week at a Glance
Math- We've had many conversations this week about estimation and how it can be beneficial. For example if you have money and want to buy something, you would likely estimate how much money you will have left. To practice this skill, we've played workplace games and worked with partners to estimate and solve problems. We've used Numberless Word Problems to make sense of problems.
Writing- Students have started writing the draft of their Narrative Writing. They've practiced many ways to begin a story (lead)

**Please note there is a transportation survey coming home that I'd like you to complete as a family and return to school next week.
I should've sent it home before Thanksgiving, but had so many students out that I held onto it until now.
MAP Testing
If your child is absent on either of these days, he/she will make up the test at a later date.
If your child receives intervention services, he/she will test in a separate location in a small group.
This is an opportunity for students to meet the requirements of the Third Grade Reading Guarantee.
Family Traditions Project
Computer Science Education Week
We also have opportunity to Google Hangout with a Computer Scientist from Hyland Software.
I also plan to reach out to the high school FIRST Lego League team to see if they'd be willing to come in and talk to the students.
Also, 5 of our students have the amazing opportunity to go to the Capitol Building to participate in Coding In the Capitol. They will present to state legislators about the importance of Computer Science.
Congratulations to Aeva, Amaury, Anderson, Ellasyn and Timothy for being selected to visit the state Capitol! They have given up their recess all week to plan and prepare!
Practice, practice, practice!
