Amazing Grace
by: Megan Shull
Introduction
Theme
The theme of my story was that being famous, rich, or cool isn't everything; being yourself matters more.
examples:
Grace quits being famous, because it wasn't her, so she could live a normal life being herself.
While meeting friends, Grace begins to find the real her by not listening to the old famous girl.
With no managers, she makes her own decisions. For example, how she dresses, when she wakes up, and what she eats.
Charactorization
"With my cropped brassy red hair, I hardly recognize myself. My mom has put the tiniest little ruby in my nose.
It's lovely." (explains how Grace looks like physically after has been transformed from being famous)
Read in voice recording.
(This shows what a careless free girl that Grace has become through her thoughts)
Figurative Language
"And the air.
God.
I can breathe. It's like---
Green.
Green air.
Like Christmas trees mixed with ocean, and when I inhale I feel an ease settling in over me that is familiar and sweet."
(simile describing the air in Alaska, her new home)
" The bike is red and rusty like Ava's truck, with little flame decals shooting off the top tube. And there's a bell. A silver bell like the kind I had when I was little."
(simile and descriptive language describing how Grace would travel in Alaska)
Dialogue
This dialogue introduces one of the main characters, Teague. It takes place right after Grace/Emily runs into a moose while riding her bike. Teague helps her get home safely after introducing her to his cousin, Fisher, who becomes Grace/Emily's best friend. This dialogue also introduces the conflict of the story because Teague becomes Emily's crush and she tries to get him to notice her the whole time.
