Arctic Blast
Glacier Ridge Elementary School 04.08.22
Dear Glacier Ridge Families,
Currently it is not snowing!
It has been an interesting week here at GRS and in D47. Having the internet down for two days led to some creative teaching moments. We thank all our staff for their expertise and flexibility!
We were to begin state testing in grades 3-5 on Thursday but the outage prevented us from doing so. Since we were restored so late in the day we postponed the start until Monday. We hope that all our students come back well rested and ready to go.
Spring pictures are now complete and will be available for purchase soon from Color Portraits. Spring pictures are a fundraising opportunity for the building so please consider purchasing a package to help us out.
The Spring Book Fair begins next week. We hope everyone comes in and gets some great books! See the information contained in this Blast for dates and hours.
Have a great weekend!

The ONLY person who correctly predicted our winners was Cullen Liu. Cullen will receive a gift certificate to Abalabix Books in Crystal Lake.

Fitnessgram Assessment
After spring break (April 4-May 20, 2022), District 47 physical education teachers will be completing FitnessGram testing for all 3rd-8th grade students. FitnessGram is a nationally recognized, criterion-referenced assessment to determine students’ fitness levels based on what is optimal for good health. The assessment measures the five health-related components of physical fitness that have been identified as important for overall health: cardiovascular endurance, body composition, and muscular endurance, strength, and flexibility.

Parents and guardians are invited to attend an informative 6th Grade Parent Panel event where they will learn all about the student transition to middle school from current District 47 middle school parents. Panel discussions consist of an overview of the middle school experience, tips for a smooth student transition, and a Q&A session. The panel is comprised of parents from all three middle schools and the topics covered will be the same at all meetings. All three presentations will be provided in English and Spanish.
