Alpine Elementary School
December 2021
FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Happy Holiday Season!
It is hard to believe the holiday season has arrived! We wish you and your family the best. We are looking forward to a great second half of the year at Alpine Elementary School!
Our First Trimester ends on December 6th and Report Cards will be posted in our Genesis Parent Portal on Tuesday, December 14th.
As the weather gets cooler, we would like to remind parents to make sure students dress appropriately. Weather permitting, recess will continue to be held outside and teachers may take students for a walk outside for a break.
I wish all of our Alpine families a wonderful and safe holiday season!
We look forward to seeing you when school reopens on January 3, 2022!
Mr. Giuseppe Leone, Principal
Principal for a Day, Joseph Panas!
FROM OUR GUIDANCE COUNSELOR
December's character education trait is caring. We want our kids to place a high value on helping other people, which is what caring is all about. When we teach kids to care, not only do they learn how to care about themselves, but they also learn how to care for others and make the world a better place. I created a video for the students and read a story on being kind. I also handed out responsibility character certificates for the month of November.

From Our PTO
Hello Alpine Families,
We hope everyone enjoyed the holiday weekend, and had a nice Thanksgiving with family and friends.
Here are a few updates from the PTO:
Wish Upon a Child Toy Drive:
Thank you to all families who donated toys during the month of November. We were able to donate about 80 gifts to children in foster or group homes throughout Sussex County this holiday season.
Fall Book Fair:
Alpine students had a great time shopping at the book fair! Thank you to everyone who purchased books for our teachers and their classrooms. This was one of our most successful book fairs. If you didn’t get a chance to set up an E-wallet this time, we highly recommend it for the next fair. It made the shopping experience seamless for the students. If you did set up an E-wallet, and money is left over, this can be used during our Spring Book Fair, or online at Scholastic.
Original Works:
All orders were shipped out to Original Works for processing. Once orders are complete, original artwork and items purchased will be sent to the school. All items will be delivered to classrooms and sent home with your child. If you were contacted about missing payment, or check made out to wrong amount or place, please be sure to send in ASAP. All orders will be held until payment is received.
Just a reminder, we do not have a PTO meeting in December. Wishing you all a Happy Holiday season.
Next virtual meeting is scheduled for January 13, 2022 at 10:00am.
Thank you for your support!

News From Music!
As I am sure many of you have heard, our second grade students have been working hard to prepare for a holiday concert! Everyone is very excited to be able to perform the songs they have been learning. Unfortunately, due to the size of our second grade and the size of our audience we are unable to have an in-person performance experience. Instead, our performance will be recorded during music class the week of December 13 - 17. A video will be emailed to all second grade families the week of December 20th. Please keep your eyes out for that email!
In order to make the most of our virtual performance, I would like to invite our second grade students to wear concert performance clothes or holiday attire on the day they record. The recording schedule is as follows:
Monday Dec. 13: Mrs. Paiva & Mrs. Marusiak
Tuesday Dec. 14: Mrs. Mattison/Mrs. Dennehey & Mrs Ryan
Wednesday Dec. 15: Mr. Lausch/Ms. Kurp/Mrs. Diklich & Mrs. Graham
Thursday Dec. 16: Mrs. Slavin & Mrs. Walsh
Friday Dec. 17: Mrs. McGovern & Mrs. Cline
Mrs. Bowley, Music Teacher
Spanish Update
To celebrate Thanksgiving, students learned about turkeys in Mexico. Ocellated turkeys are very different from the ones we are used to seeing here in NJ. They also learned how to say "el pavo" in Spanish, the word for turkey. Ask your students if they can tell you how the two are different! Here is a picture for reference. Please check out my Alpine website for more monthly updates on what is happening in Spanish. Have a great holiday season!
