2022 Fall Athletics Review
Peekskill Pride
Boys Varsity Soccer
Coach Iasillo and Coach Guevara
Our Fall 2022 Boys Varsity Soccer team had several accomplishments this season both in their individual and team play. The boys earned one of the best records in program history over the past 15 years (10-5-2). We hosted a 1st Round Sectional game for the first time in over 20 years. We had 5 players earn recognition for our team and school - 1 All Section (Chris Loja), 1 All Section Honorable Mention (Jonnathan Mendieta), and 3 All League (Manuel Lopez, Daniel Farez Sierra, Chris Chalco). Our team had a player earn the LOHUD Player Of The Week award (Sept.12-19) and Peekskill High School’s Athlete Of the Month in September 2022. We would like to thank all of the seniors on the team. Their presence has significantly helped our program grow over the years and they will truly be missed by their teammates and coaches.
JV Boys Soccer
Coach Zehr and Coach Depompeis
Peekskills JV Boys Soccer teams displayed some great soccer skills and team playing abilities. As a team, Peekskill held most of the possession of play in each of their contests. Not only did they excel and improve with each game they also were a team filled with respect and courtesy to players, referees and coaches. As a team we would like to thank the parents, bus drivers, security staff and athletic office for their commitment and part in making the season possible.
Modified Boys Soccer
Coach Tama and Coach Juby
The modified program demonstrated improvement throughout the season. The boys improved their communication on the field and their ability to work together as teams. The highlights of the season were the two final games which happened to be on turf. The entire squad took on Poughkeepsie on Torpy Field and came away with a convincing 6-2 victory. All players played in the game. Then on the final day, the 8th graders traveled to Fox Lane and won a hard fought 3-2 game. Peekskill trailed 3-1 entering the fourth quarter and came to win it with three fourth quarter goals. The game winner came on a penalty kick with 1:07 left in the game. We are so proud of these boys. They attended practice and games consistently. They put in the work on a daily basis and were eager to improve their skills.
Varsity Girls Soccer
Coach DiCuio and Coach Burke
The Girls Varsity Soccer season was marked by tremendous growth from our players. This team was a tight group from the first day of summer workouts all the way through the last game of the year. Early on, the team bonded through competitive workouts, and balanced it with a lot of laughter. As the regular season opened up, there were many reasons to be optimistic about the current team and the overall direction of the program.
During the season, the team earned some great wins, in particular winning their game against Hamilton during the Latin X Showcase in September. The team’s character was tested in two overtime games this season and in both instances they left it all out on the field playing 100 minutes, or close to, in each match. The team showed heart and determination even through some of the more challenging games this season. They played well enough to earn a spot in a sectional out-bracket game. The ultimate goal is to be part of the sectional tournament each year from here on out. The seniors, Evelyn, Belinda, Anais, Ashanty, Erika, Litzi, and Jessenia all played an integral role in shaping the team this year and giving the program a positive direction to head in. The team is excited to see what the future holds!
JV Girls Soccer
Coach Rice
The JV Girls Soccer team showed a tremendous amount of improvement throughout the season. The team showed better results each time they competed against a previously played opponent. This was particularly showcased as the team earned a 2-0 against Nyack avenging a previous 3-1 loss earlier in the season.
Modified Girls Soccer
Coach Scapperotti and Coach Mattiace
Girls Modified Soccer played Brewster for their first game of the season, losing 0-1. Their hard work
throughout the season shows when they won their last game of the season against Brewster 3-0. The girls modified soccer team ended the season with a winning record of 8-3. We are very proud of our girls for continuing to work hard throughout the season.
Varsity Cheer
Kiara Turner
The Varsity Cheerleading team had a great season. All of the girls on the team were excited to lead the crowd with cheers. Regardless of the situation during the game, the cheerleaders were positive and enjoyed cheering.
Coach Gardner
The 2022-2023 Varsity Football team ended the season triumphantly. Despite the slow start the football team were able to finish the season on a 2 game winning streak. The student-athletes persevered through adversity and challenges throughout the season. These events allowed players to develop character, and cultivate bonds between their teammates as well with their coaches. We conducted weekly honors to showcase players hard work throughout the season. This was a rebuild/developmental year due to all a new coaching staff, and an inexperienced team where 95% of the team were underclassmen. As the season progressed leaders began to emerge, and shape the identity of the team which consisted of the following principles: relentless effort,
competitive intelligence, and power of the unit. I’m looking forward to developing an off season fitness program, a leadership council, recruitment/prospect guidance,
Modified Football
Coach Holliday and Coach Hatch
We had a great season setting the foundation for our the program's future success.
Varsity Girls Swimming
Coach Brady
It’s awesome to see what a group of girls can accomplish in just 10 weeks. We had a lot of new faces on our team this year. The teams motivation, dedication and support of one another lead us to a record of 7-1 in our conference and 3 rd place out of 8 in our championship meet. Four girls went on to sectionals to swim in three relays. We will miss our three seniors but are already looking forward to competing and achieving goals next
fall.
Varsity Cross Country
Coach McCabe and Coach Piliero
Our boys team won the League Championship for the first time in many years. Brianna Carter
finished her senior Season as a League Champion, All County, All Section and All State Honors.
She also received the Sportsmanship Award at the State Meet.
Modified Cross Country
Coach Fardales
The 2022 Modified Cross Country season was amazing. This year our team numbers doubled in the amount of athletes that we had joined our team this season. Everyone on the team displayed hard work and good sportsmanship. Teammates helped each other out and motivated each other to work hard and never give up. Joshua Silvestre worked hard all season long and never gave up. Always showed up on time ready to work and gave 100% Joshua also beat his time towards the end of the season. Can't wait to see what next season has in store for our athletes. Thanks for a great season!!!
Varsity Volleyball
Coach Johnson
I consider this year to be a rebuilding year. We lost 95% of our starters from last year and the majority of our team are only in the 10th grade. We focused on building fundamentals in terms of volleyball skills as well as court awareness. Our team improved a lot throughout the season becoming more consistent and building a strong sense of urgency in practice and in games. Most importantly our students have committed themselves to playing a sport or conditioning all year long so I am excited to see what next preseason looks like.
JV Volleyball
Coach Boscia
The positives for our season was on the court. We started as a B team with girls who never played volleyball before. By the time our season ended we won 2 games vs other teams A teams, and tied three games. We never got blown out and were in every game. Our team was able to go from a B team into another A team.
Modified Volleyball
Coach Adams and Coach Dodaro
We had 35 students who received a wonderful introduction to the sport of volleyball. They immensely enjoyed their time learning how to pass, set and hit a volleyball, as well as learn game tactics, serving and Defense. We sponsored 2 teams, RED and BLUE, both of which learned lessons of teamwork, discipline, goal setting, and perseverance.
