Use Your Resources
Refer to current data and create learning opportunities that target student's specific needs
* All these resources have been pulled from the VDOE Website.
TestNav practice tests can be taken in the computer lab (in addition to the ones Jen and Mary will be using). Also, TestNav should be loaded on desktop computers in 3-5 classrooms to be able to project the test and use for discussion.
Focus on Showing What You Know
Review, Don’t Regurgitate
Use the SOL Graphic Organizers here - fill in part of it, have students fill in the rest. Mix up whether you fill in the main idea or the detail, the effect or the cause, the notes or the title.
Have students take the steps they DO on a certain question or test and turn the steps into a recipe, an Instagram photo with a caption explaining what is happening, a Tweet with a # explaining the strategy, collect the strategies/tips/content reminders for a Pinterest Page and put it in the hallway.
Have students make infographics for review of content with a lot of detail - digital or paper versions.
Come up with a # statement for testing/review time for your class - #Focused #Warriors.
Balance Emotional With Academics
Rely on the power of bibliotherapy - read books to students about high pressure situations, test-taking, performances, etc. Share biographies and autobiographies about inspirational people who overcome hardships with effort. Focus on effort and making it through to the finish. Print pictures of the people and have students label them with the lessons to learn and apply to this time of year.
Character Traits to remind students of - Do a read aloud for each and talk about the characteristics of the character - have students make charts with the name, their words to define it, and what that will look like for the rest of the year or testing. Think about establishing a routine that starts by introducing the character trait, learning about it, using it, and then reflecting on how it can help students during this time of year.
