Principal's Message
Thank you for your attention to making attendance a priority and letting our office know if your child will be absent or late to school. Thank you for following our safety guidelines for drop-off and dismissal. This helps all of us have an efficient and safe dismissal procedure for everyone.
In this issue, we will be discussing ways in which you can help your child build foundational skills for life-long success! We had a wonderful week with your children!

Bus Safety-Things to Know
Be Smart, Be Safe, Be Seen!
Please take a moment to review your expectations about safety and maintaining a climate of mutual respect on the bus. Any rule or expectation that applies to the school environment applies to riding the bus. Here's a short video that was shared with our K-5 students to help them recognize safe and respectful bus behavior.
Dismissal Safety
"Kids are always watching-be a positive role model"
- Use crosswalks and avoid cutting between cars parked in a line. It might be a little bit of a further walk but it is much safer to use crosswalks versus cutting between cars.
- Avoid using a cell phone in the car line so your full attention can be on the many pedestrians at dismissal time.
- Please have your child enter from the curbside. Avoid having a child walk into the traffic side to get into the car, even if you get out to help them.
- Try to call the school prior to 3:00 pm if you have a change in your child's plans home. This will help us, help get your child to their correct pickup location at dismissal time.
- If your student is riding the bus home with a friend, they must bring a handwritten note with parent contact information included in the note.
- Slow down. We have so many kids assuming drivers are watching them and don't always watch carefully when they enter a roadway or parking lot.
- Review safety rules with your child often.
How can I help my child?
Reading Routines
- Let young children hold the book and turn the pages
- Talk about the story as you read it
- Point to the pictures and talk about them
- For older children, start a book club with friends
- Read expressively. Talk in character and engage the child in the story
- Encourage questions or conversation about the story
- Help your child get a library card and visit the library
- Make inferences or guesses about what will happen next
Check out what the cumulative effect of reading can have on your child! Invest in your child a few minutes every night, the rewards will be awesome!
