It's Time to Select Courses for the 2020-21 School Year
* Students will meet individually with their counselor to select courses.
* Make sure to review the 2020-21 Course Description Book in order to be well informed about your choices.
* Speak with teachers regarding potential readiness for honors or Advanced Placement (AP) classes.
* Be aware of course prerequisites and course fees for certain classes.
* Students should continue using Google Classroom for useful information regarding course selections.

January Course Registration and Counselor Availability
* Counselor availability (counselor presence in the counseling office) will be limited throughout the month of January as the majority of our time spent with students to select their courses will occur in the classrooms.
We are working diligently to make sure we have direct time with EACH student to be certain that selected courses align with their four-year plan and support post-secondary readiness.
If you need to contact your counselor throughout the registration window, feel free to email your assigned counselor or call x.1040 or 1041.

West-MEC applications are now available online
Students can view programs by accessing https://west-mec.edu/career-programs/
Applications are available on the West-MEC site. Once an application is completed, a student must bring a signed copy (student and parent signature) to the counseling office. All applications are due by January 17th. Most programs are geared toward current 10th and 11th graders, but make sure to view eligibility requirements for each program. More information has been shared via Google Classroom. Counselors visited 10th grade classrooms last semester to share this information as well.

Senior Awards Night
Agua Fria will be hosting our annual Senior Awards Night in May. We would like to honor students who have earned awards, recognition, or scholarships. You will be receiving more information soon, however, please start collecting any letters or emails that show the scholarship name and amount that has been awarded to you. We would like you to include all offers even if you do not plan to attend that college or university. Please note that need-based scholarships will not be recognized.
Mrs. Ferrante-Jackson will be sending out a survey in February for students to include all awards, recognition, or scholarships that students have received. After students complete the survey, they will be required to turn in the supporting documents to her in order to be recognized and participate in the event. We look forward to celebrating our seniors!

Concurrent Enrollment
The district has implemented new procedures that need to be followed any time a student plans to take a course outside of our school district (while still enrolled at Agua Fria):
1 -- Student and parent must meet with the student’s counselor regarding the online course taken outside of our school district and then complete the concurrent enrollment form.
2 -- Upon completion of the course, the student must inform his/her counselor and schedule an End of Course Assessment through Agua Fria High School.
3 -- To receive core credit to meet graduation requirements, the student must complete the AFUHSD EOCA within 30 days of the completion of the online course.
4 -- Student must pass the EOCA with a 70% or better.
** If a student does not take and pass the EOCA, he/she will be granted an elective credit instead of the core credit for the specific content area.

Make an Appointment to see your School Counselor
* Important information for students when scheduling appointments during the school day
Making an appointment online reserves that time slot, but you still need to bring a paper pass with you to the office. Paper passes are available in the counseling office (counseling staff can verify that you made the appointment) or you can request the pass from a teacher. Students are always required to have a pass when they leave the classroom.
Here are the links to make an appointment with the counselors:
