The problems and culture of its people


Desertification is a type of land degradation in which dry lands lose their bodies of water, vegetation and wildlife. It is caused my mismanagement of natural resources. This problem is located in Africa along the coasts and south of the Sahara.


Overpopulation is the number of people compared to the amount of essential nutrients need to survive. This problem is caused by a decline in child mortality rates and high fertitlity rates in the sub-Saharan desert.


Apartheid is a system where they separated different races. This happened in 1948 because South Africa wanted control ecomically and socially.


Genocide is the killing of a large group of people at once. This problem is caused by lust for power, political differences, poverty, poor government policies, wars due to foreign interference, and ethnic differences. Genocide is occuring in the Luwero Triangle and Mukara in Soroti both in Uganda and the mass grave in Rwanda.

Civil Wars

A civil war is a war between people who live in the same country. These wars are happening because of poverty, failed political institutions, and the country's dependence on natural resources. The wars that have ended occured in Congo and the Ivory Coast. The wars that are still being fought today are in Libya, Mali, Nigeria, and South Sudan.


A disease is a disorder in the function of the human body that affects a certain part. Disease are widespread in Africa due to difficult access to clinics, the proce of vaccination and other treatments, and in some cases diseases are caused by parasites or bacteria in the water. These diseases happen all over the continent but the most deadly disease Ebola has been found most comminly in West Africa.


Lack of education relates to the topics above greatly. If a large number of the population did not receive a good education then their country is not going to have the government they should and the unemployment rates will increase due to thier lack of ability leading to poverty. For example, there aren't going to be many doctors if the majority of Africans can't afford basic education leading to disease and death.

A rite of passage is an important event marking a new stage in someone's life. Some examples of this would be birth or marriage. In Africa, the 5 major rites are birth, adulthood, marriage, eldership, and ancestorship.

Swahili is a Bantu language that is widely used in East Africa and it was the original of the Swahili people. The main countries are Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Zaire, Rwanda, and Burund.


Polygamy is the act of having more than one spouse at a time. This takes place all over the continent but is most popular in Kenya.


Bantu is a part of the Niger-Congo language family with 650 languages. It takes place in Southern and Eastern Africa the most.
