Common Sense

Thomas Jefferson Feeder Pattern News - April 4, 2016

About the Title

Common Sense was a pamphlet authored by Thomas Paine in 1775-76. It was written to inspire American colonists to declare independence from British Rule at the beginning of The Revolution. This weekly, modern, online relative of that pamphlet documents the news, events, updates, and celebrations of the TJ Revolution - the educational sensation sweeping through northwest Dallas.

Executive Director's Message

The time of year with one foot in the "here and now" and one foot in next school year has arrived. During April, school leaders are balancing performance evaluations for their staff, student assessment, master schedule-building, and hiring for the 2016-2017 school year. Parents and students, too, are taking time to finish this school year strong, while also "shopping" their options for next school year.

This week, I encourage you to leverage some of the learning in this edition of Common Sense to think through your teacher selection model. Wednesday, we will spend time planning to maximize your performance evaluation conversations with teachers with a focus on capacity-building.

Parents, too, have obligations this week. We will be hosting the TJ Collegiate Academy Open House at Thomas Jefferson HS this Thursday evening. Furthermore, 2 of our campuses will be initiating their 2-way dual language programs next school year, complementing the program that is already in place at Walnut Hill ES. The Two-Way Dual Language Fair is this Saturday. If your campus is offering something new or worthwhile, how are you marketing it to prospective students?

As you finish this year strong and plan for an even better 2016-2017, be mindful of your stakeholders' perspectives. Teachers, parents, and students are also pulled in numerous directions this time of year and you have a responsibility to ensure your campus is supporting everyone in the best way possible.

Have a great week with students!
