Pennies 4 Patients
Windsor students will have the chance to participate in Pennies 4 Patients again this year. Pennies 4 Patients is a campaign that raises money for research and supports the patients of Leukemia/Lymphoma (blood cancers). For the first three weeks in February, students will bring change or money from home. Each classroom has a collection box. Each week, we will count the money and let students know how much has been raised by each class. At the end of the three weeks, the 3 classes with the highest totals (change and online donations), will receive an Olive Garden Pizza and Pasta Party (1st), a pizza party (2nd), and a doughnut party (3rd). Many thanks to PAWS for sponsoring the 2nd and 3rd place parties.
I will send home a note through email about how to make online donations (and encourage your relatives to help out).
Last year was a banner year for our fund-raising. We collected a whopping $2915.50! We usually bring in about $1100-$1400.
Our top 3 classes last year were:
3rd Place / Mr. Buyck / $270.76
2nd Place / Ms. Hoffman / $349.70
1st Place / Mr. Ballard / $361.50
It was great to see our 5th grade classes rise to the challenge set before them. Usually, our 5th grade classes are in a race for last. Not last year’s classes!
We will have a kick-off assembly on February 1st. Students will be coming home with collection boxes soon after. For student safety, please do not send students door-to-door asking for donations without an adult. Every year we get arcade tokens and foreign currency. Please keep those. They will not count toward class totals. If a donation seems unusually generous, an adult from school will contact you to make sure it’s OK. (My younger brother was known for giving away my older brother’s paper route money to his friends freely. )
There is no expectation for students to contribute anything to this fundraising campaign. There is no pressure for students to feel like they must donate.
If you have any questions about this campaign, please feel free to ask me, John Hickling at john.hickling@dmschools.org
Thank you in advance for your help.
