Scarborough Middle School

Family Newsletter for 03-31-23

Hello Scarborough Middle School Families,

It’s hard to believe that Quarter 3 is coming to a close today! Your child’s final Q3 grades will be viewable on PowerSchool on Monday, April 10, 2023. Below are instructions on how to access PowerSchool, and we encourage you to view your child’s progress on a regular basis.

How to use PowerSchool:

PowerSchool login page:

Where to view grades:

  • Once in your child’s portal, click on Grades and Attendance, see grades in Q3 column under Course Information

Grading and Reporting Guide:

If you would like a paper copy to be mailed, please contact Vicki Lemelin at vlemelin@scarboroughschools.org.

On another note we are seeing an uptick of unkind behaviors here at SMS. A lot of these issues stem from social media. Please be sure you are monitoring your student's social media activity regularly.

Respectfully,

Kathy Tirrell, Principal

Angela Scully, Assistant Principal

SMS STAFF APPRECIATION

Hi everyone! It's time to start thinking about showing our appreciation for the incredible SMS teachers and staff. This year's SMS Staff Appreciation Week will be May 8-12, so it's not too early to collect donations.

Please sign up using this link for whatever you can contribute. Every little bit helps! We are again looking for items to make punny mailbox stuffers, as well as gift baskets to raffle, $5 gift cards, and items to complete the meals we have in mind. With your help, it'll be a great spread!

If you have any questions, please reach out to Kim French at mom2heflmf@yahoo.com, or give her a call/text at 207-664-3211.

We'd love to collect items by April 24 (the Monday after April Break); items can be dropped off any time at SMS main office or let Kim know when/where you can meet.

Thank you!

Kim French, Parent Co-Chair of the SMS Staff Appreciation Event

Student Absence Reporting

Families should report their middle school student's absence from school by calling the SMS main office at 207-730-4800 or by email at msoffice@scarboroughschools.org. A reason for the absence must be stated, otherwise SMS office staff will reach out to determine the reason for the absence.

Excusable reasons for an absence:

  • illness
  • appointment
  • religious holiday
  • family emergency
  • planned absence

For Planned Absences (a day out of school which is not illness or medical appointment related), families should fill out the Scarborough Middle School Planned Absence form, which is found here.

For questions about attendance, please contact the Scarborough Middle School main office at 207-730-4800 or email us at msoffice@scarboroughschools.org
