Please make every attempt to attend to support our students. It is a short but meaningful ceremony for our students.
Educator Goals: If you received feedback on your goals, please submit the revised goals by Tuesday. If you need clarification or additional support, reach out to your evaluator.
November MCAS Retests: High school ELA MCAS retest will be November 8, 9, 13. High school math MCAS retest will be November 14-15. You will be notified if this affects any of your students.
Reminders
Office Detention: Check the office detention list on your day. Click on your name for the list of students who are assigned detention on your day (if your name is not linked, it means you have no students assigned).
Shout Outs and Students of the Week: Send staff shout outs and students of the week to Lauren by Friday at 10am!
Safety
HRHS will be having a Lockdown Drill at 10:00 am on November 6, 2018. Take a minute to review the following guidance from the Massachusetts State Police.
Do quick peeks and call in any students from the hallway.
Lock and close doors promptly.
Ensure that the students are staged in the room’s safe spot in a posture that they can move from readily (ie: not jammed under desks, etc).
If possible, at least one teacher per room should be on their feet and in closer proximity to the door.
Turn off all sources of light (including powerpoints/projectors/etc).
Close the blinds and shades (where available) and close and lock the windows.
Take attendance (if circumstances permit).
Once you are cleared by an administrator or police officer, remain in your classroom and keep all students out of the hallways, but you may resume teaching.
Remain vigilant.
Be ready to MOVE!
Be ready to ACT!
Constantly RE-ASSESS your circumstances!
Staff Shout Outs!
Shout out to Tara O'Brien and Todd Bryant for having MA Fish & Wildlife come to the school and do "electrofishing" outside with 9th graders. MA Fish & Wildlife demonstrated to all of the 9th grade environmental classes and other classes were able to join as well. Tim Nye, HRHS class of 2006, reached out about working with HRHS and it turned out to be a great day. About 150 students total were able to attend the demonstration.
Responsibility and Perseverance:
- Shout out to Janet Baron for working hard with our students to encourage them, reinforce good work habits, and share learning tools. Thank you!
- Thank you Laura Pompei for encouraging students' engagement and curiosity by providing the opportunity to create art through beautiful Dia de Muertos skulls. It allowed all to feel successful!
- Thank you Billy Broaddus for continuing to support the chemistry program by providing plans for all classes and by providing extra help to all students.
Collaboration and Engagement:
Shout out to Kirsti Wiemokly who volunteered to help count student council ballots for the 9th grade elections twice this week. The Student Council is truly grateful to her for her willingness to help out.
Respect and Compassion:
Thank you to Jeff Carreiro and Christy Parent for being super thoughtful and intentional with our life skills students. They strike a beautiful balance of being kind and compassionate while still holding their students to school-wide rules and expectations.
Student Spotlight
Junior of the Week: Liam Galpin participates very actively in class, and is highly motivated. He has a great attitude that positively influences the other students in class. He is always very polite and pleasant, and promptly acknowledges if he makes mistakes or misunderstands anything, which often leads to very good class discussions. He has done great work in his broadcast journalism class so far this year! He was nominated by Cyla O'Connor.
Sophomore of the Week: Katarzyna Wisnauckas puts in the time and effort in all of her classes, on the soccer field, and in the community. She has over 150 hours of community service as a sophomore!
Freshman of the Week: McKenzie Nichols actively participates in all of her classes and is doing great academically. She also has recently been voted into the leadership role of class treasurer!
