Mid-year SLO Conferences
I will be available for SLO discussions Wednesday, January 20th and Friday, January 22nd (8-3). ALL teachers should have a face-face discussion if at all possible. If you don’t anticipate any changes the conference will likely be 10 minutes. If you are going to make any changes to your mid-year SLO, please plan on 20 minutes and come with detailed notes as we will update your SLO when we meet! To sign up for a time, click HERE.
We will be having our Friendship Celebration on Friday, Feb. 12, 2016. All volunteers should sign-in at the front office. Once again, students can leave with their parents if they sign-out in your classrooms. Celebrations will begin at 1:00 and should be finished no later than 2:00. An ideal party food list will include; a fruit, a vegetable, something sweet, something salty and juice and/or water. There can also be a game and a craft. Please communicate this information to your room parent.
New Early Learning Group
Beginning in mid-January, we will have a WCPS early learning group in our building. This group will have some local families with 2, 3 or 4 year old children who have IFSPs (this is an IEP for a little). The group is being run by a B-5 teacher, Sandy Lyons, and a B-5 SLP, Judy Peters. They will be meeting 2 or 3 times per month in the music portable from 11:15 - 12:00. So, if you see them, please welcome them to our building.

January Principal Led Professional Development
To prepare for this date, please complete the following:
- Be sure to put the following information in the PVES 15-16 student data chart; winter MAP, fact data and F&P data. Dan will add PARCC scores for grades 4 & 5.
- We will be reviewing cornerstone task data as well. Please be prepared to discuss.
- We are going to have a PIE discussion as a school team. Please be sure you have very carefully reviewed your class list to ensure each student is in the correct group. You should make a list of who needs to be moved and why. We will be brainstorming ideas on how to realign some groups to meet more instructional needs. Bring some fresh ideas please!
Cornerstone Task Updates from CES
Happy New Year!
We wanted to provide some updates as we look ahead in the plan for Cornerstone Tasks. As a reminder, please use the live website to access the most current Cornerstone Tasks as revisions to the actual tasks have been made based on feedback and a need to maintain consistency in the design. The standards aligned to the tasks HAVE NOT BEEN CHANGED and therefore will have no impact to the arrangement of standards prepared.
Please know there have been no changes to the diagnostic tasks in order to allow teachers to compare data from the start of the year to marking period 3. Please share with your teachers that we continue to collect their feedback and revisions will be made to those tasks after MP 3. Our elementary task force will also be aligning the transfer goals to the disciplinary transfer goals, which will ultimately impact the cornerstone tasks as well for a true PK – 12 curriculum.
Kindergarten gave the COP assessment as a diagnostic, so it is recommended that that assessment be repeated in MP 2 for students that are not reading at a Level C on F&P yet. This will also provide data to determine which students can be identified now for early intervention (Stepping Stones and Sound Partners!) The Bowling Task is an option as well, and if teachers would like to see a growth comparison, this task could be given now and again in MP 4. This is an option, not mandatory and based on what is best for your students.
According to the Cornerstone Task sequence document, MP2 tasks should be scored by Jan 15. Please be reminded that the dates were strategically designed to align with principal led PD days, as we know it takes time to analyze the student artifacts. Please plan to submit the data analysis google form by January 22nd. We value thoughtful plans for these conversations, so if your school needs a minor extension from this date, just let us know.
