This Week at Brookside...
Remote Learning Edition 1: March 27, 2020
Principals Update
Our educators continue to do an outstanding job delivering remote learning for all of our students. The creativity and effort we have seen from our staff is truly remarkable and it is greatly appreciated. There is so much care out there for the wellbeing of our community. It is inspirational!
Governor Murphy announced yesterday that all schools in New Jersey will be closed at least until April 17th. He said that he will revisit the issue of school closings at that time. We are prepared to deliver remote instruction as long as we need to. We now know that the absolute earliest date that we will be back together is April 20th.
Governor Murphy also announced this week that New Jersey received a waiver from the United States Department of Education to cancel statewide standardized testing for the 2019-2020 school year. There will be no state standardized testing this year. It has been cancelled by the New Jersey Department of Education.
It is important that we continue to recognize that remote learning does not look like typical classroom-based learning. Nonetheless, please rest ensured that there is structure to the plan that creates a sense of consistency for students. Our goal has been, and will continue to be, to keep students learning during the timeframe that we are not in school.
- Teachers post their Google Classroom assignments each morning by 8:30 a.m.
- Each morning you receive a Brookside Learning from Home Attendance Sheet. We are requesting that parents complete the form, by 10:00 a.m. each day for their child/ren, as this will be considered confirmation of receipt of the email and, in turn, will facilitate student attendance.
- Students are expected to complete assignments as assigned and comply with all policies regarding technology usage in the classroom. Student work submission should be at the end of the day/week depending on assignment. No student work should be due outside of the normal school day hours.
Thank you all for the great pictures you have submitted throughout the past two weeks! Please click HERE to view our Remote Learning Picture Folder!
We all hope that the members of our community remain in good health and that we are able to be together again in our schools as soon as we can.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation and continued partnership.

District Remote learning Updates
From Dr. Gonzalez: How much longer will school buildings be closed? I wish I knew. Governor Murphy’s Executive Order 104 mandates that schools are closed until further notice. Therefore, we are moving forward under the assumption that we will continue to operate remotely through April 3 and will continue with remote instruction when we return from spring break on April 13. When we have further guidance, we will send a notification to our school community.
Governor Murphy said yesterday that he will not revisit the topic of opening schools until April 17th at the earliest.
NJSLA: This week, Governor Murphy formally announced that all State tests will be cancelled!
