Notes from the Office

We are off to a great start to the school year! As we settle into week four of the school year, we'd like to remind all families of a few helpful tips!

1. If your child is going to be absent from school, please let the office know by 9:15am. We can be reached at 616-669-6700. Please also let us know if your child is going to be late and if they will be needing a hot lunch that day. Lunch orders need to be submitted by 10am each day.

2. Students arriving late or being picked up early, need to be signed in or out in the office by am adult.

3. All visitors and volunteers coming into the building must have a background check on file before coming in the building. Background checks need to be completed each year. Please complete the background check form here.

4. If you are taking a vacation and your child will be absent for more than three days, please request a vacation form from the office. These can be sent home with your child or emailed.

5. Please let the office know by 3pm if you are making a one time change for how your child will be going home.

Count on Me-Alward Students and Staff Making a Difference

This year, our students and staff are working on taking initiative to make a difference in the lives of others. If you hear about how an Alward student, teacher, or staff member made a difference in someone else's life, please fill out the Google Form below. We will be posting these "Count on Me" sightings on our new bulletin boards right outside the main office. Students, parents and staff members can recognize others for things as simple as someone always saying hello to them or holding the door for them. We can also recognize others for going as far as helping out in the community. We want to know how our students and staff are making a difference at Alward and out in the community and celebrate these acts of kindness this year! Thank you for taking the time to support this "Count on Me" initiative this school year!

Character Ed Assembly

Today, we had our first Character Ed Assembly. We will be having these assembly's on each early release day. Staff and students gathered to learn about what it means to be an Alward Champion! An ALWARD Champion can be: Positive, Listening, Helpful, Polite, Respectful, Caring. Each student came home today with an Alward Champion coloring book with each of these traits! Please take some time to talk with your students at home about what each of these character traits means! Starting in October, staff will be choosing champions who demonstrate these traits. See below for some pictures of our assembly today!
