Rossellini, Roma, Citta' Aperta (Rome, Open City), 1945
This semester, Cinema Vitti will be exploring the classics of Italian film, starting with Roberto Rossellini's 1945 World War II film Roma, Citta' Aperta. Featuring an iconic performance by Anna Magnani, the film puts us right into the harsh days of the German occupation of Italy. Resistance fighters struggle to fight the odds and free their city from the Nazis, but it is not without great cost to their families and loved ones.
