Franklin County 4-H Recognition Program - RSVP by 10/18/17

We encourage all members and families to attend. All 4-H members that register to attend will have their name, club, and years in 4-H displayed on the screen above the stage as their name is read and the member goes up on stage to be recognized. Because the program is personalized like that, it is very important to RSVP by the deadline.

4-H members who filled out the following forms will receive special recognition at this event:
  • Cloverbud Pin
  • Clover Award Pins (Gold, Silver, Bronze)
  • Leadership Pin
  • Community Service Pin
  • Public Speaking Pin

Camp Opportunity for Teens! - Register by Oct. 20

NOVEMBER 3-5, 2017

Carving New Ideas is a statewide teen leadership camping opportunity for any 4-H members in grades 8-12. The focus is on improving skills in critical thinking and program facilitation. This unique event is planned and facilitated by the Collegiate 4-H Club at The Ohio State University. The weekend begins on Friday night at 4-H Camp Ohio in St. Louisville, Ohio, with check-in between 6:30pm and 8:00pm.

This year, campers will "Go for the Gold" at CNI. The theme dives into Health – the fourth H! Sessions and speakers, along with other fun, will focus on making us all healthier, one gold medal at a time. You'll have a ton of fun meeting other teens from around Ohio, learning more about yourself and exploring how you can grow into an amazing leader. Campers will pack up and head home on Sunday at 10:30am, ready to move forward refreshed and to lead their communities in healthy initiatives. Camp Counselor Applications - DEADLINE NOVember 1


Applications are now being accepted for teens interested in serving as new or returning camp counselors at the 2018 Franklin County 4-H Camp, Monday, June 18, through Friday, June 22. Individuals thinking of applying should check out the position description and application details found HERE.

New and returning counselors must apply. Note that applicants that were not counselors in 2017, need to be collect references prior to the deadline of November 1, so don't wait until the last minute!


APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be a 4-H member in good standing & complete at least one project
  • Must be at least 14 years old by the start of camp (June 18, 2018)
  • Must be able to get transportation to meetings and events as needed
  • Must complete a minimum of 24 hours of training
  • Must complete Child Abuse Awareness training
  • Must sign Standards of Behaviors and complete the Code of Conduct form
  • Applicants that were not counselors in 2017 must submit two completed reference forms. DON'T WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE!
  • Applicants who are 18 years old or older as of April 18, 2018 must also submit to a background check


* There will be more applicants than positions so selections will have to be made.

CARTEENS

Teen drivers interested in leadership / community service opportunities should join CARTEENS! Use your skills to teach court mandated teens with driving offenses once a month and get great perks like gift cards and college scholarships. The next couple CARTEENS will be held November 7, and December 12. They take place in the evening at the Extension Office at 530 W Spring Street.

Ohio 4-H Achievement Form Workshop

Ohio 4-H is offering an amazing opportunity to jump start your Ohio 4-H Achievement Form this year. If you are interested in applying for trip awards to Citizenship Washington Focus, Leadership Washington Focus, Ohio 4-H Leadership Camp, Buckeye Leadership Workshop, or Ohio 4-H Sea Camp, please consider this workshop!

When: November 19, 2017, 6:00pm-8:00pm
Where: Nationwide & Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center, 2201 Fred Taylor Drive, Columbus
RSVP: Your attendance and option preference is preferred by 11/15/17,
but not required. RSVP by emailing Hannah Epley at epley.24@osu.edu.

This comprehensive workshop will help you:
• Learn about opportunities that can arise from successful achievement form completion.
• Improve record keeping skills.
• Enhance forms to make them even stronger.

There will be two options for attendees:
• Option 1: Basic Overview-Ideal for first time achievement form completion or general information. This session will cover basic information about completing the form.
• Option 2: More In-Depth Session-Ideal for 2+ year completion of the form. It will offer work stations and coaches available to help attendees with already started or completed achievement forms.

Workshop attendees will be equipped with:
• Samples of achievement forms
• Verb lists to help enhance descriptions to use on form
• Items to include on achievement forms that may have been overlooked
• Experts who have either been successful or helped successful youth

Attendees are encouraged to bring their previous or already started achievement form with them!
Parents and advisors also welcome!

Advisor Appreciation & Enrichment Night

Club Advisors please save the date for the annual Advisor Appreciation and Enrichment Night on January 22, 2018. Come enjoy dinner, fellowship, new resources, and a small token of our appreciation for your hard work all year. Each club will also receive their enrollment packet for 2018.

B = A beginning-level project for members with no experience in a project area

Change in 4-H Age Policy

Ohio 4-H membership is based on a child’s age AND grade as of January 1 of the current calendar year.

Eligibility for Cloverbud participation begins when a child is age 5 and enrolled in kindergarten.

Eligibility for participation in 4-H projects and competitive events begins when a child is age 8 and in third grade. Any youth age 9 or above is eligible for project membership, regardless of grade level.

Membership requires enrollment in an authorized Ohio 4-H club or group under the direction of an OSU Extension professional or an approved adult volunteer. A youth’s
4-H eligibility ends December 31 the year he or she turns 19.

4-H Clubs with Horses

ATTENTION: 4-H Advisors of Clubs with Horses

If your club has horse project members (not Horseless Horse), you are required to send a club advisor to the 4-H Horse Advisory Committee meetings. These usually take place the first Monday of each month at the fairgrounds and begin at 7pm.

The many shows, clinics, and activities for horse members cannot take place without your clubs support and help. Please make an effort to participate.

New 4-H Volunteer Advisor Orientation

Are you or someone you know interested in becoming a 4-H Volunteer and helping a 4-H Club? 4-H Advisors must be screened Ohio 4-H Volunteers. This process takes several steps. One of which is to attend an orientation. The next orientation will be held:

February 12, 2018, 6:30pm (Extension Office - 530 W Spring St.)

If you are interested in attending the orientation and becoming a 4-H volunteer please contact Christina Byrd at byrd.282@osu.edu to register.
