The Kids are Home... Now What?
Updates, Reminders and Advice for Parents
Updates & Reminders
Thank you for partnering with us as we transition to support students in our new eLearning environment. We are committed to providing students with a positive learning experience through this challenging time. As we move into an extended school closure, I wanted to provide a follow-up communication assuring you that we are committed to continuing to teach your children through eLearning.
With the transition into next week’s eLearning, it is important to share the adjustments that were made based on feedback from the first few days of implementation throughout the school.
- The deadline for all make up work/redo assignments from this past week (March 16-20th) has been extended to 11:59 pm on Sunday, 3/22.
- The eLearning instruction for the week of March 23rd-March 27th will focus on new content and standards. Please note teachers will begin tracking student progress on completed assignments based on the activities submitted through eLearning. The new naming convention and to do lists should be in full force to help consolidate the need to click in multiple places to see what is coming up.
- The eLearning lesson plans for the upcoming week will be posted in ECHO as usual.
- Virtual office hours will officially start on Monday as well. Teachers will be available via Google Hangouts (through their lpsfrisco.net accounts) to conference with students one on one.
- If you child still needs a chrome book, please come to the front office between the hours of 9:00 and 2:00 PM, Friday, March 20.
- If you have any need for Tech support for the chrome books that have been provided or were already checked out (for high school students) please contact your student's first period teacher. The teacher will need your student's name, email address, the Chrome Book Cart and device number Number, AKA Secondary Cart 6-2.19 (which is on a sticker on the back of the checked out Chromebook) or if it is a high school student, the first period teacher will note that as well. What grade the student is in, what the issue is with the device and what type of charger the it has (USB-C, ASUS, or HP BlueTip) The teacher can then request that a new Chromebook is available for check out. Chromebook pick up will be on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11:00-12:00 weekly. It will only be available once the request is put in by the teacher. Please do not just show up to campus.
As a reminder, your child’s teachers are your first point of contact for support through this eLearning process. Therefore, I encourage you to maintain close communication with your child’s teachers through the utilization of the virtual office hours established. In addition, your child’s teachers can further support you if you are unsure of your child’s log-in information to any necessary resources.
Thank you for your patience and partnership throughout this eLearning process. I look forward to continuing to support students and teachers in the days to come.

A Sample Day with Ideas to Help Fill the Time
Baking = great STEM learning
After you've done all the measuring, then you can think about the chemistry of cooking. At what temperature does butter melt? Or water boil? You and your child can generate hundreds of questions and answers about math and science by the simple act of making cookies.
Then, once those cookies are made, there are all kinds of story problems! If everyone in the family gets an equal number of cookies, how many cookies does each person get? What about the ethical dimensions of cookie-making? Who should get the most? The person who cooks? Who cleans? Who buys the groceries? Or should everyone get an equal amount?
