Learning Your Way
The Invisible Woman
Even though I am out of the building, I will be returning every other day starting October 6th. Think of me like the Invisible Woman, personalizing does not start with me though, it starts with you!
Maria Montessori said, "The greatest sign of success for a teacher ... is to be able to say, ‘The children are now working as if I did not exist." Think about that quote for a minute. Can you imagine what your class could look like if children entered your room and went to their self-directed work station not because they were told to, but because they want to? This is the ultimate goal of a PERSONALIZED LEARNING ENVIRONMENT. Children obtaining mastery as you guide their learning in a way that best meets their needs.
Can you do this? Of course you can. You have the tools. From the PACE summer training to upcoming events offered by your school PLE team to the Amplify tablet, everything you need is before you. Your job is to truly engage in the workshops offered not only in your school but around GCS. Maintain connections with the teachers you met this past summer or become a connected educator and seek out other PLE Masters around the world. Where do you start? Begin by searching educational hashtags on Twitter or subscribing to educational sites such as Edutopia, Pinterest or Discovery Education.
Special thanks to Ms. Jeri Brown for helping out in my absence, continue to reach out to her for immediate assistance.

Knowing the Learner
Did you give a learning inventory with your students during the first week of school? Hopefully you uttered a yes with so much excitement you quivered. Or perhaps your ears turned red at the simple thought of what to do with the inventories once students discover their True Color? If you experienced both sensations then read on...
Most teachers are fairly good at assessing learning styles just by viewing how your students work. But have you ever thought of how a student can grow if they realize they are extremely auditory, a Gold or visual-spatial? Having this information makes a huge difference when having students process information more effectively.
One of the important pillars of personalized learning is where you as the teacher get to know the learners that you serve. That is a foundational step to teaching based on the instructional, and mental needs of your students. We have mentioned several learning inventories as well as multiple intelligences surveys this summer. Within the first few weeks of school, students should complete one of the inventories (VARK, True Colors, Learning Styles and Multiple Intelligences) weekly and watch them grow in their understanding of themselves and the curriculum. My Personal Favorite is VARK
This assessment is based on a student’s learning profile. It is a great tool to pinpoint some instructional strengths and opportunities for growth. It can be given digitally or in hard copy form. See the attached resources for more detail.

Student Tablet Training Modules
Our tablet roll out date is right around the corner (Oct. 20th). Student training modules are available for you to look through. Every student will need to complete the five(5) student training modules completed by the district team. We will provide clarity on this implementation soon. The courses are slated for 30-40 minutes and will be teacher-led. All teachers in the building will be required to be familiar with the sessions.
Click the link below for a preview of the student training modules. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to contact me.
PLE Tidbits
Remember the PLE self-assessment? We will take a deeper look at the PLE navigator in your PLCs, Grade Level and PACE staff developments. This is your personalized learning guide to transforming your learning environment. The navigator is designed to give you a closer look at instructional practices and strategies that support a personalized learning environment. We began this alignment with a PLE survey. We will take this again for the fall. This will allow the PACE and Admin teams to better serve your individual needs. The link to take that is below. If you have never taken this survey please watch the intro video for more information. Please allot 15 minutes to complete the survey and get your results. After you take the Self-Assessment follow the instructions to get your results. If you need assistance please email me or a member of the PACE team.
