Dear East Middle School Students, Parents, and Guardians:
We've got some good nuts and bolts details within the newsletter, so make sure to review it! Before you scroll down, please see these important reminders:
- Grades for term 3 have been posted!
- Our lost and found will be donated over the break, so if you have anything, please get it by Friday.
- Enjoy the spring break. We will see students back at school on April 2nd!

Athletic and Activities
Month of March:

April 3rd-5th: Cheerleading Tryouts (bus transportation to the high school will be provided)

Our Dance is Coming Up!
- April 6th will be our Hawaiian Spring Dance.
- Sixth grade students will have their dance from 3:00pm-4:30pm. Sixth grade students will be given permission slips to stay for the dance following Spring Break.
- Our seventh and eighth grade students will come back from 5:30pm-7:00pm.
- There will be an inflatable obstacle course, so please dress appropriately.
April 3, 2018 Levy Issue
April 3 election
The April 3 ballot will include the Proposition R-P proposed levy increase and Board of Education candidates. Prop R-P asks voters for a 75-cent operating levy increase. At the same time, the debt service tax rate is scheduled to decrease by 30 cents, resulting in a net tax rate increase of 45 cents.

The high school event will be followed at 7:30 p.m. by a Board Candidate Forum sponsored by the Ray-Pec PTA Council.
Absentee voting
Registered voters who expect to be prevented from going to their polling place on Election Day may vote absentee now through Monday, April 2, in the Cass County Clerk's office at 102 E. Wall, Harrisonville. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 31. For any additional information please call 816-380-8102. Absentee voting
Our Textile Drive is Coming Up After Spring Break!
We also have Saturday drop off on April 7 from 9am-12pm. On this day students will be available on the northwest side of the building to help unload your vehicles. Teams of students are competing against each other for the most pounds brought in. If you know of a student/teacher or team you wish your items to be donated towards, let us know! Let the Spring cleaning begin!

SPRING HAS SPRUNG!
ELA: April 16th, 17th, 18th, and 19th
Math: April 23rd, 24th, and 25th
Science and End of Course (Algebra): May 1st, 2nd, and 3rd
NWEA Testing: May 7th through May 18th
We do ask that if at all possible, try to schedule doctor's appointments, and other times when students are out of class, for before or after school during these testing windows!
Student Attendance at After School Events
Students are expected to remain in the stands during the games unless utilizing restrooms or concessions. Middle school students will have a designated section in the south end zone on the field and will have access to the nearby visitor concessions and restrooms.

Who: Nicole Portzen
What: 6th Grade ELA
Education: I graduated from UCM with a Bachelors of Science in Middle School Education and a minor in history. I will be graduating this May with a Master of Arts in Early Childhood and Elementary Education.
Describe Yourself in 10 Words or Less: Jesus-follower, Mother of three, always searching for the silver lining
What Makes You a Great Member of the Husky Pack: I try to be empathetic (probably to a fault) and really work on staying positive and calm under pressure
Something People Might Not Know About Me: I lived in a small village in Germany outside of Kaiserslautern after high school and miss it immensely! I have a heart for victims of human trafficking and desire to live outside of the US to work with men, women, and children affected by the human slave trade.
