Elevating Excellence in Academics, Character & Community
Edition 4 - Week of 9/23/19
Leadership Corner
Mrs. Baker - K-3 Principal
This week we met as teams to discuss data and setup our groups for Target Time. This is an amazing time that targets instruction to meet the learning needs of all students. I could not be more proud of the thoughtfulness and work our teachers put into developing strategies to truly meet the needs of all students.
Thank you to all the parents that continue to reach out about the amazing staff and giving shout outs. We are lucky to have the best of the best staff at NVCS.
Running club is in full swing on Tuesday and Thursday each week. Students are welcome to join all they need is running shoes and a positive attitude There are no permission slips and runs from 7:25 - 7:45. What a great way to energize our brains.
Early Checkout
Please remember that we will not check students out for early checkout after 2:50.
Notes from Driveline
Thank you all for your support in helping to expedite Driveline in a safe and efficient manner. Your children's safety is our number one priority. Please help us be great neighbors and avoid parking at the Larimer County building and walking to our campus. We also ask that if you are picking up students at the west door that you do not park in the K-3 NVCS parking lot. If you are driving in, please use the driveline. We are continuing to ask that parents do not turn left into driveline. It is very dangerous.
Morning Dropoff
Thank you for staying behind the black fence in the morning. This allows staff to interact with students and keeps everyone safe.
Lunch Update
NVCS K-3 will begin full hot lunch service on September 30. We will serve hot lunch on Tuesday and Thursday of next week. Please remember that if your child is bringing a lunch from home and want milk, they will need to pay .60 for that milk.
This upcoming week's menu is:
Tuesday: Meatball Sub
Thursday: Hot Dogs
We are in need of volunteers to help in the lunchroom with both serving and monitoring students. If you are interested, please let the front office know.
Mrs. Hejl - 4-8 Principal
Hello Nighthawks,
What an exciting week! This week I was able to host multiple rewards lunches with students who earned lunch and crafting with the principal, enjoy our after school theatre program and their fun exercises, hear about the 7th and 8th grade field trip, and plan for Destination Imagination with some amazing educators!
Notes From Driveline:
Larimer County Ticketing:
Parents, please be aware that the Larimer County Building will begin ticketing cars that do not belong to their clientele. We strongly encourage that parents use our driveline system to pick up and drop off students.
Arriving After 7:50 am:
Students arriving after 7:50 am are able to enter through the front doors of the building. Tardy slips will not be assigned until after 8:03 a.m. This will allow students time to get to their classes and lockers without having to run around the building.
4th Grade Healthy Hearts Visit:
Monday, 9/23, Tuesday 9/24, and Wednesday 9/25 The 4th grade class is participating in UC Health’s Healthy Hearts program next week. Healthy Hearts provides free cardiovascular education and cholesterol screenings to students as part of their health and science education. Students will learn about their heart, heart disease, risk factors and they will have the opportunity to participate in a free cholesterol screening during the school day.
Running Club:
Running club is up and running (no pun intended) at the 4-8 campus. Running club is held every Wednesday and Friday from 7:30-7:50 on the turf field. Participation is building as news about this fun club spreads.
Mr. Bissell, AP/AD - Nighthawk Nation Athletic News
Volleyball: A Team is currently 4 and 5 and the B team is 4 and 4. They have home games the next two Mondays at 4 p.m. The NCIL Tourney will be October 5. If we finish higher than 6th place we will be in the “Gold” Bracket. Tourney Location is TBD. Currently, we are in 7th place. The seventh place team will host the Silver Bracket on 10/5. We might be hosting the Silver bracket tourney. Both the A and B team’s have shown much improvement this season.
Soccer: Currently, our team has a 5-3 record and are in 4th place. They have 1 game remaining on their schedule. If we win our last game we could move up to 2nd place. The playoffs start on Thursday, September 26th. We will be hosting the first round. The boys are really coming together as a team and having a lot of fun.

Bicycle safety
Did you know on average Colorado gets 245 sunny days a year? (bestplaces.net) That’s 245 chances to get outside and ride your bike each day! Bike riding is a lot of fun but accidents happen. Before you use your bicycle, make sure it’s ready and safe to ride. An easy way to do this is to think of the ABC’S of biking:
A- Air (Make sure you have enough air in your tires)
B- Brakes (Double check to see that your brakes work and your brake pads are not worn)
C- Chain and cranks (Pull on your cranks to make sure they’re not loose and check your chain to make sure it’s not rusty)
Some other bicycle safety tips are:
Wear a helmet every time you take a bicycle ride. A helmet protects your head, face, and brain if you fall down
Make sure the bicycle is the right size for you. When you stand over your bike, straddle the top bar so both your feet touch the ground
Wear bright clothes and put reflectors on your bike if possible
Always ride with your hands on the handlebars
Use bike lanes whenever you can
Wear the right shoes- sneakers are best. Sandals won’t let help you grip the pedals very well
Now that you’ve learned some safety tips, go enjoy the nice weather and ride your bike with thew new tips you learned!

2019 HAWK WALK Theme: Color Your Character
It’s that exciting time of year again. Time for the super-fun Hawk Walk and Spirit Week celebration. Here are the important details:
Spirit Week will be Sept 30th - Oct 4th
Events include:
Monday, Sept 30th Black & White Day
Tuesday, Oct 1st Sports Day
Wednesday, Oct 2nd New Vision Spirit Day & HAWK WALK
Thursday, Oct 3rd Decade Day
Friday, Oct 4th Wacky Tacky (crazy mismatched everything)
What is HAWK WALK?
Hawk Walk is New Vision’s annual, fun-filled walk-a-thon. This year we are excited to have it at our new soccer field at the 4-8 campus. In addition, something new is being added, buddy-building activities. Team-building, buddy activities are planned to promote important cohesiveness between our two campuses. For example, the kindergarten students will be participating in multiple stations with their “big buddy” in grades 4th and 5th.
How can you help are parent/guardian?
1) Donate. This is PTO’s biggest fundraiser of the year. The money earned will go toward the remaining cost of the playground of the grade 4-8 campus, as well updating the K-3 campus playground. Students will receive a donation sheet and envelope to bring home. Any amount donated is appreciated.
Prizes will be awarded for the following donated amounts: $25, $50, $100, $150 (prizes to be disclosed at a later date)
2) Volunteer. Keep your eye out for a Sign Up Genius for volunteers to help the day of the event.
3) Purchase a Cheer Poster. Show your spirit and CHEER your student on. Cheer posters will be on sale for $5. Once purchased, a poster board will be sent home to be decorated by you and your child. The crazier the better.
Return your finished poster board to NVCS on the Monday of Spirit Week, and PTO will hang it up on the fence (weather permitting), or inside the hallways for students to admire and see your support. Afterwards, the students can take them home.
With Hawk Walk around the corner, donations will start coming in. PTO now has the option for an online payment. Family members from near and far can help your student hit their prize goal.

Technology Use at Home
As a reminder, NVCS student computers and user accounts are monitored by the school for security, safety and behavioural purposes. This is particularly important to keep in mind if your student accesses their NVCS Google G Suite for Education account through the Chrome Web Browser at home. If a student's account is signed into the Chrome Web Browser, any activity on that account is visible and accessible to both the school and the student. Student accounts should only be used for school purposes.
To ensure other family members are not working through an NVCS Google G Suite for Education account in Chrome, please use the following Google article to create separate profiles within Chrome.
