Principal Young's Caregiver Update
March 9, 2023
Message from Principal Young
During the month of March we will focus on RESPECT as part of the Glen Hills Way. The Glen Hills Way states the following:
We are a community that respects ourselves, others, and our school community through our words and works.
I encourage you to take some time to engage in a discussion with your student about RESPECT. It is a great way to enter a conversation about what it means have respect for self and others at home, school, and in the community. As you experience situations, ask your student for their feedback on how others showed or did not show respect? What did they think about the person based on what they saw? Ask them to share what they think it looks like and sounds like to show respect in different settings.
These conversations can open the door to discuss how to respond and advocate when faced with issues that feel disrespectful. As young adolescents your students are learning how to navigate social situations each day. The guidance of caregivers, educators, and other adult mentors are crucial supports. They may not always seek the advice, but finding ways to continue the conversation with them is a way to teach and reach them.

Student Wellness Day March 21, 2023
The Glendale-River Hills School District is implementing a new partnership with Candor Health Education for our Human Growth and Development curriculum to fulfill the required WI State Standards for Human Growth and Development. Candor Health Education is a nonprofit organization that educates students, their trusted adults, and communities on the topics of puberty, sex, and drug addiction. Candor provides science-based information in a safe, engaging environment so students gain age-appropriate knowledge which prepares them to make informed decisions that positively impact their health.
Your child’s Human Growth and Development learning will take place on March 21st, as part of Glen Hills’ first-ever “Student Wellness Day”. In addition to the Candor sessions, students will participate in various wellness-related sessions throughout the school day such as yoga, mindfulness, team building, art, nutrition, and fitness. Regular class scheduling will resume on the following day, March 22nd.

Important Reminder
COMMUNICATING WITH STUDENTS DURING THE SCHOOL DAY
Throughout the day the school receives many calls requesting to have a message to be delivered to a student. Due to the volume of calls, it is the school’s procedure to give only urgent messages called in by a caregiver. Otherwise, messages will be delivered during non-instructional times such as lunch, recess, or transitions. In the case of an emergency, school personnel will do everything possible to assist a family. We respectfully request that caregivers do not text message or call their children during the school day, as this can be highly disruptive and violates Glen Hill’s cell phone policy. If your child contacts you via their personal cell phone, please verify that they have permission to call. If they do not, please direct them to obtain permission from their teacher or administrator.
