Who we are...
1. Name and position in AJAC?
Good afternoon everyone. My name is Sinead Kelly and I am a Grade 1 teacher here at Ajman Academy.
2. Where are you from?
I am from a Belfast, Ireland.
3. Family?
At home in Ireland I have my parents, my two sisters and lots of aunts, uncles and cousins.
4. Childhood nickname?
A very short and simple SK.
5. Favourite food?
Anything Asian. I absolutely love Noodles!
6. Hobbies?
Gaelic football which is an Irish type of football. I am also the current chairperson of Jumeirah Gaels in Dubai.
7. Favourite place in the UAE?
La Mer Beach in Dubai.
8. Most memorable experience as a teacher so far?
In my previous school I taught an autistic child who had no knowledge of the English language, but by the end of the year he had learnt his alphabet.
9. Funniest moment in your teaching career?
Teaching grade one students to play hurling – a type of Irish sport.
10. The most challenging moment in your teaching career?
My first year teaching in Qatar.
11. Childhood hero?
My mum, she’s amazing. She was a special needs teacher and youth worker. My mum always said, “The day I call my job work is the day I stop working.” Which is something I stick by too.
12. If you weren’t a teacher, what would you be?
A doctor actually!
