Halloween Parade
Halloween Costume Guidelines:
- Students may wear Halloween costumes but must be recognizable.
- Face painting is allowed if the student is recognizable and the painting applies to the costume being worn (i.e. whiskers for a cat, nose for a clown).
- No toy (or real) weapons are allowed at school.
- If a costume is determined by a staff member to be a disruption in the classroom, a possible safety hazard, or inappropriate the student will be asked to change.
- Students may be allowed time to change into their costume at the discretion of the teacher.
- Parents are encouraged to supervise their child's costume choice – keeping in mind that ultimately Turrill Elementary is a place of learning, safety and appropriateness.
- If students do wear inappropriate costumes, the administration reserves the right to ask them to change.

Disability Awareness Day
The purpose of the program is to build understanding for the challenges faced by people on a daily basis.
This program will involve hands- on activity based workshop for 4th and 5th graders, and classroom based activities for all grade levels.
A note that went home this week to make parents aware of this program and to ask for volunteers to help with the many stations our students will experiencing.

PARENT CORNER
Literacy Center News - Reading is NOT Over-rated!!
You will soon be seeing your child coming home with a black, drawstring bag with books in it from our Literacy Center. In fact, your child will be bringing home many books throughout the school year. One book in the bag will be at your child's independent reading level that they can read on their own. The second book in the bag is one your child selected simply because they are excited to read it. Hopefully, this will provide you with an enjoyable opportunity to read together!
In order to help your child continue to improve their reading ability at home you will also find in the bag:
- a log sheet
- and reading tips.
20 minutes of reading a night will go a long way towards helping your child become more successful at school; but, more importantly in whatever they choose to do in the future.
Insurance Questions?
Did you know....
Things to consider:
1. Is your current doctor part of the new plan
2. Is the hospital the one you want
