WHY DO YOU USE THERE IS / THERE ARE FOR?
- We use there is and there are to say that something exists, in this way:
- THERE IS= TO DESCRIBE SINGULAR NOUNS.
- THERE ARE= TO DESCRIBE PLURAL NOUNS.
WHEN WE USE THERE IS AND THERE ARE ?
- THERE IS= When there is only one item.
- Example: There is one bear.
- THERE ARE= When there is more than one item.
- Example: There are two cows.
NEGATIVE FORM.
- The negative is formed by putting NOT after: IS or ARE.
- Example: There is not a tree in the park.
- Example: There are not two cows in the street.
